Zhang Sheng Zhe (張聖者) aka Zhang Zhu Bu (張主簿), one of the 36 Heavenly Generals (三十六天將) that assisted Bao Sheng Da Di Wu Tao (保生大帝吳本) & Xuan Tian Shang Di (玄天上帝) in assisting the needy and subduing of demons & negative entities.
According to China Hokkien Province (福建省同安縣), Tong An City Records (同安縣誌), Zhang Zhu Bu was a real historical character in Song Dynasty (around CE970 – CE1000+).
Zhang Sheng Zhe was known as one of the sworn brothers of Jiang Xian Guan (江仙官), who served the Song Empire and being appointed as a Secretary of Tong An City. After knowing Bao Sheng Da Di was a kind hearted Chinese Physician, he resigned from his post and learnt medical knowledge under Bao Sheng Da Di.
CE1036, on the day of Bao Sheng Da Di's Enlightenment, Zhang Sheng Zhe got his Enlightenment too. From then, Tong An folks dedicated Temples to him for his contributions in assisting the needy, etc.
In other contexts, Zhang Sheng Zhe is also being addressed as Fei Tian Da Sheng 飛天大聖 (meaning Sage that traveled around in the Heaven to do inspections).
Due to his title, a lot of people tend to mistaken that he got relationship with the Monkey Sage (齊天大聖), which actually is not. And some folks tend to mistaken him as Zhang Gong Fa Zhu (張公法主), the one who died while subduing the Snake Demon.
Till today, in Xia Men City, you are still able to find the temple that solely dedicated to Zhang Sheng Zhe, on 1st Day of Lunar 9 Month (農曆九月初一日), which is the birthday of Zhang Sheng Zhe, a lot of folks will visit the temple to pay respect to him as a form of gratitude.

ReplyDeleteIn Taoism or in Chinese Deity System, we have more than 1000 Deities. Most of them are being recorded in Ancient Records, such as San Jiao Shou Shen Ji, Shou Shen Ji, Taoist Canon or other different Sects Records.

ReplyDeleteSan Shi Liu Tian Gang and Qi Shi Er Di Sha are the 108 Stars in the Heavenly Realm.
ReplyDeleteIn Water Margin, the author used these 108 Stars to create story and this is how the 108 Heros are being created (some of the characters in the story are true historical characters).

ReplyDeleteTo be more accurate, he does not has the element of East, but appointed as a General who assist Marshal Li in looking after the East-bound Armies for the Spiritual World.
Slowly, you will be able to see the other Generals being posted up.

wen qiong is the real leader of east camp , or lei zhen zi . wat abt the pai shan tao hai da jiang . their name seen powerful ! .
ReplyDeleteIn Taoism, Wen Qiong is a very high rank Marshal that being appointed to assist Dong Yu Da Di (you can refer back on the posting of Wen Qiong on his background).
ReplyDeleteIn folks culture, Wen Qiong is being place in the East Camp during certain Taoist Ritual.
Whereas Lei Zhen Zi only take over the East Marshal Position after the folks started to use Feng Shen Bang as the standard of where Spiritual Armies exist.
is the qing long shen the guard of east and bai hu shen guard of west or control the 4 sheng shou.
ReplyDeleteQing Long Shen, Bai Hu Shen, Zhu Que Shen & Xuan Shen are actually the 4 Deities that represent the actual 28 Constellation stars.

Zhu Que Shen, the 7 stars situated at the South Position
Bai Hu Shen, the 7 stars situated at the West Position
Xuan Wu Shen, the 7 stars situated at the North Position
And so, among them, there's no so-called leader which lead the other 3, etc.

ReplyDeleteIn Main Stream Taoism or Taoist Rituals/Ceremonies, Marshal Wen Qiong will be invited to control the Spiritual Armies of the Eastern Direction, he's not the Leader/Commandor of East Camp.

but why specially east camp ?? any reason when he not the commander of east camp ??
ReplyDeleteDue to the Element he has in his Spiritual Skills, so he was appointed to look after the Eastern Direction in the Heavenly Realm.
ReplyDeleteAs for the commandor wise, there are other lower ranking Generals who will look into the commanding of the Spiritual Armies Issues, not Marshal Wen Qiong.
Marshal Wen Qiong and other 4-5 Marshals are appointed to look after the Whole Heavenly Armies Troops (which consist of the Northern Heaven Spiritual Armies).
The one we see in the Folks Culture, usually is known as Zhang She Zhe who is given the authority to look after the East Camp or East Direction Spiritual Armies in the Mortal World.
