This is the Second Set of Pictures of the Hei Ling Qi, in Hokkien known as Orh Leng Ki, in English, translated as the Black Command Flag.
All these flags shown here are the more Accurate and Correct One to be used during Rituals/Ceremonies, etc.
If you will to look closely in the various different flags, you will see a common title being included, which is Xuan Tian Shang Di, cos in certain Contexts, Xuan Tian Shang Di is the High Position Deity that control and command the Heavenly Armies.

You mean no Hua Guang Cmd Flag or what I have speculate is wrong?
ReplyDeleteYup, those that being used in Singapore are not the accurate Command Flag, that is being invented and created after the Culture of Medium being imported into Singapore in the Early 1900s (can be earlier - 1850++), due to the Culture and the Hearsay, etc, the Command Flag than being used for Medium change it's appearance into just a Black Cloth Flag with a White Writing of a Character Ling.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Local Culture, those Simple Flag do have some association with the SS Group in the Early Days (different patterns or different color ard the Flag to represent certain meaning, etc).
As for Taoism, the Black Flag that initiated by Xuan Tian Shang Di is the only Flag that used to control and command the Spiritual Armies, etc.
In Singapore, till today, only the a few trained Taoist Priests are able to control and endorsed the Main Black Flag, other than that, No.
Of cos they are. just that, many ppl tend to follow blindly or not using the Right One - there's many cling-reason behind:

2 - the folks are too poor to get the Accurate 1, etc
Hua Guang is part of the Command Flag, he cant own 1 or neither he can use the Command Flag to command, etc.

ReplyDeleteYup, thats for directing the Spiritual Armies, if the Flag after Kai Guang is still "vacant", then it will bring harm to the Tua and also the Mediums.
ReplyDeleteFor the Flags I show here are of much higher level, not all sintua or temples can own them or invite them.
In Singapore, it cost realy HIGH to get one.
ReplyDeleteThe Best is to get a Trained & Skillful Taoist Priest to do the drawing, cos each stroke the Priest draw, he will do certain chanting, this will help in endorsing the Flag.
No, that is just a little Army Troop Commandor, different from what being show here.

ReplyDeleteIn Taoism, Huang aka Yellow represent the Authority of Heaven or Taoism.
ReplyDeleteOnly upon the Permission and Grant by the Tao or the Three Realms, then a Yellow Flag or a Yellow Command Flag is given, which is usually the Taoist Priests will get it, other than that, All are just Folks Culture, etc.
Hei Ling is Hei Ling, nothing so called Yin or Tian.
Those who have gone thru training will know of how a Hei Ling being created in SOuth East Asia.
Those who go by hearsay will try to diffititate Hei Ling is from where & where.
i saw before one sintua placing red yellow and black flags outside their temple. Are they the same?

ReplyDeleteIt is a Justice Bao temple. The 3 colour flags outside the temple actually holds another set of different significance.
In the olden days during magistrate courts trial, 3 kinds of colour ' ling pai ' are used for different purpose for the constables to act or for the passing of judgement.
Yellow- supreme highest order to act from the issuing official ( su ling)
Red - order to arrest and withhold suspects and criminals ( na ling)
Black - to execute , exterminate, or to capture dead or alive.( zhan ling)
Thus, being a Justice Bao temple, i guess they should be placing the xtra 2 colour flags there for this very significance rather than for the usual significance of acting as a beacon for the heavenly troupes that the orh leng ki is in local temples are for.
