In the previous introduction, the Official Taoist Five
Offerings had been introduced (Incense, Flowers, Lamp/Candles, Water &
Fruit).
In here, another Five Offerings will be introduced and
with the previous Five Official Taoist Offerings, these 10 items are known as
the Official Ten Offerings of Taoism (道教十供).
So, what are other Five Offerings?
Here they are:
Chinese Tea, Food or Rice, Gems or Paper Offerings,
Chanting Beads or Pearl & Cloth or Clothing.
So what are the meanings behind these Five Offerings?
Here're the brief intros on the meanings:
Chinese Tea represents Determination & Firm or in
other contexts as Awake. (茶代表堅定/清醒)
Food or Rice represents Gratitude. Showing Gratitude to
Dao for providing the harvesting of any form of Food, can be Living Animals or
Plants for consuming. And also, showing Gratitude to the people whom had put in
effort in the Harvesting. (食代表知恩)
Gems or Paper Offerings represents Treasuring. Oneself
needed to learn to Treasure any form of thing that being given to you and also,
Relationship that occurred for Oneself. (寶代表珍惜)
Chanting Beads or Pearl represents Self Discipline or
Self-reflection. (珠代表自律)
Cloth of Clothing represents Never Restrict by the
Unnecessary & Unrealistic facts or thoughts that obstruct Oneself from
attaining a higher level of Cultivation. For example; never afraid of Death as
what the majority is afraid of. Understand the meaning of Death and see thru
the fear of Death, once Oneself is able to jump out from the restricting-fear,
Oneself will be able to live more happily and able to assist more needy. (衣代表離俗)
So when can we do the Five/Ten Offerings?
On the First & Fifteen Day of the Lunar Month or on
any Big Festivals & Anniversary Celebrations.
Can we add more Offerings besides these Five/Ten
Offerings?
Of cos you can. You can add any other Fruits Offerings or
Traditional Cookies Offerings, as long as one self is comfortable with.
