Sweet Potato Horse for Kitchen Deity (番薯馬送灶君)


This is a type of Offering that the Folks will do in the Ancient Era while sending off Kitchen Deity on the 23rd & 24th Day of Lunar 12 Month. According to earliest record, this Offering can be found in Xia Dynasty (夏朝), which at that time, Folks will used Yam (芋頭) to make it into the shape of a Horse. Only until Ming Dynasty (明朝), when sweet potatoe was being imported from the South and then Folks changed Yam Horse to Sweet Potatoe Horse.

This is a long lost culture for Sending off of Kitchen Deity. And today, Juin Wen Vabien Lee of Long Shan Men had bring it back to "Life" again.


番薯馬﹐在夏朝時為"芋頭馬"(用芋頭製作﹐取意﹕好預兆)﹐這是民間在臘月廿三及廿四日送灶時所做的一種供品。

番薯在明朝年間從南方引進之後﹐人們便將"芋頭馬"改為"番薯馬"。
