Pictures of Qian Li Yan & Shun Feng Er (千里眼與順風耳)

Qian Li Yan and Shun Feng Er (千里眼與順風耳) aka General of Thousand Mile Sight and General of Brillant Hearing.

In many stories and Religious Contexts, they are Generals of many Deities, in-order for them to assist the Deities in seeing and hearing issues that happened in far-away-areas.

Due to different records and stories from different Era, in the Chinese Deities System, they are a few groups of Qian Li Yan and Shun Feng Er appeared.

Here's some quick intro on the different groups (千里眼與順風耳原由):

1 – From Feng Shen Bang aka Creation of Deities (原至封神榜), in this version, they are know as Gao Ming and Gao Jue (名為高明與高覺)

2 – From Journey to the South (原至南遊記), which is based on the background of Hua Guang Da Di (華光大帝), later the 2 Generals were subdued by Hua Guang to be his assistants, in this version, they are know as Shi Kuang and Li Lou (師曠與離婁)

3 – From the story of Ma Zu aka Goddess of the Sea (媽祖傳說), in this version, they are know as Jin and Liu Jiang Jun (金柳二將)

  5. Liu Ren doesnt own any pair of Qian Li n Shun Feng, but in their sect, inviting them is a mus, alot of people tend to mistaken that Liu Ren own them, actually is not.

As for the position, usually Qian Li will stand on the Deity's left side -> which facing us is right, and Shun Feng on the Deity's right -> which is left to us.

Yup, the special pair is from Taiwan. If you will to go to Tanjong Pagar Pu Tuo Temple, on the right-side altar, they got a very professional and actual pair of Qian Li n Shun Feng.

  6. The biggest Qian Li and Shun Feng I saw was in Bichiu in Hokkien Province (island of Mei Zhou, off the coast of Fujian province in China). They are located at the main gate before the stairs up (main temple complex of Ma Zu Niang Niang). And in the kahkih (planchet/guanpit) sessions in the Ma Zu Temple here in my area usually when Ma Zu won't come to write she usually sends Qian Li and Shun Feng to give advises and bless people. They write such big and fat chinese characters that before they declare who they are we usually already know that its them.

  7. in wad temple can you find these to idols??

we dun have it in mal

    ReplyDelete
  8. Usually u can see them together with Ma Zu aka Goddess of the Sea or Hua Guang Da Di - the one with three eyes and a golden pyramid.

If not, they will usually stand outside temples of deities that are closely associated with Sea or catching demons.

  9. You can see the combined in Cheow Leng Temple at Yishun. Nice to go there and learn more about it. Cheow Leng Temple is a Putien Temple where Ma Zu was borned. By the way, there is a retreat coming from October 24th to 28th. Worth attending.

  10. cheow leng temple ?? 昭灵宫/庙 ??

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yes, Cheow Leng Temple. Sorry when I say combined means the two (Qian Li and Shun Feng) are combined into 1. Anyone knows the history behind?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I like to know more about this God. Nice if you have and share. Thanks.

  14. No it is Heng Hwa Temple from Putien. Come around on Oct 24th to witness the 5 days retreat

  15. Yup, in this Temple, the Qian Li and Shun Feng is being combined into one Deity addressed as Liu Jin Jiang Jun aka Liu Kim Jiong.

In Spore, it can be rare, but in Taiwan, the Deity is being accepted by the folks since some time long ago.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Do you any more information of the combined Deity? Would greatly appreciate.

    ReplyDelete
  17. This you will hav to check with the temple, cos this is a very recent Deity, not much records on that.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks. What is the Chinese name for Liu Jin Jiang Jun aka Liu Kim Jiong? Do you know which temples in Taiwan worship Liu Jin Jiang Jun aka Liu Kim Jiong?

    ReplyDelete
  19. 柳金將軍/柳金將.

Its quite common to see them everywhere, once you go Taiwan, just ask around, you will probable to find one.

    ReplyDelete
  20. oh ya ya .. its a heng hua temple .. heard fr a priest =)

  21. Cheow Leng Temple (Heng Hwa temple) in Yishun will go into retreat from 24 to 28 October. One of the main Deity is the combined Qian Li Yan and Shun Feeng Er.

Ceremonies will begin on the 24 with the retreat officially starting at 3pm. This is the main activity that should not be missed.

The most interesting part will be on (finish) on the 28 around 3am (early morning). Most people will be there waiting from mid night onward. Try not to miss them - once in a life time.

In between activities will go on with friends and followers from other temples visiting. There will be several temples visiting (and paying respect) on the 3rd day (26th October about noon).

    ReplyDelete
  22. wats the interestin part on the 28 ??

    ReplyDelete
  23. Frankly, I am not sure. But I was told that it is going to worth the while to be there.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bro, share with us the temple address??

    ReplyDelete
  25. Address:

    CHEOW LENG BEO
    525 Yishun Industrial Park A
    Singapore 768769
    Tel: 6752 6752

From Yishun MRT, take Bus 169 and drop at the main road - there is a Hindu Temple. Walk about 5-10 mins to the indusrial park. The temple is near to the Civil Defense HQ.

  26. Can the both generals be assistants for all deities, such as Fazhugong?

    ReplyDelete
  27. 左千里眼看清人情事物 , 右顺风耳听尽事事非非

i heard this fr somewhere and find it quite meaningful as in a way that the eyes and ear they have is to observe human things beside assist god ..

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hahahahaha.. Qian Li and Shun Feng only assist Deities that they are destinated too, not any Deities can have them as assistants.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What are the deities they assists? Thanks Bro

    ReplyDelete
  30. Qian Li Shun Feng are the assistants of Ma Zu, Hua Guang.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi brother, do you (or anyone) have the mantra of Qian Li and Shun Feng? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sorry, due to they are low rank deities, they do not have any sole mantra dedicated to them.

  34. Very nice picts... What is the story of this celestial scarf (?) and of the face of the tiger on the belt please ?

    ReplyDelete
  35. For the Scarf, its a form of symbol of Immortality, which later, other Non-Chinese Religions import into their Religious System.

As for the Face of a Tiger on the Belt, there are a few reasons,

    1 to show the authorities

2 to show that the belt is actually demons that being subdue by the Deity

3 as a form of decoration only.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thank you Jave. Which 'other Non-Chinese Religions' are you talking about for example ? I never noticed it in other Religions...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hahahaha, its quite sensitive to mention it here.

Try to observe in the future, you will find out. :P

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ooops, sorry.
I will, you can count on me ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  39. A very rare & nice set of Qian Li & Shun Feng.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I would say so too.
It is quite rare to see them in such a position, tgt.
Usually, they would be standing by the two sides of deities such as Ma Zu and Hua Guang Da Di.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yup, for this type of statue, even thou its rare, it's difficult to honour, and so, some will only used it as display.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Difficult to honour?
As in, all Qian Li Yan and Shun Feng Er or just this rare one?
    The reason being..?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Can be for this statue or in whole.. wahahahaha

Qian Li & Shun Feng are not 2 normal Deities that normal folks can honoured, if anything will to happen, the folks will have to suffer.

    ReplyDelete
  44. First, they are not born in Human Forms, the energies that being given out is not as Positive as normal Deities.

Secondly, they are not fully enlightened Deities, if anything will to happen, they are not fully in responsible or able to take authority at the very initial moment, and so, without a Main Deities accompanying them, do not honoured them single.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh, I see.
I thought why you say it is hard to honour them, so you are saying that only honouring them alone.
Haha. I thought it will still pose a big problem even with a Main Deity like Ma Zu or Hua Guang Da Di around.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hahahaha, yup yup, never honour them alone, with Ma Zu or Hua Guang is fine :P
