  4. how does one know when he or she just got enlightenment?...

  5. Hahahahaha.. got enlightenment, no one will know only Heaven will know when the Heaven send down a Bestowed Petition.

In the Mortal World, out of respect for Deities, usually we address their date of Death as Date of Enlightenment.

  6. Interesting....why Gods are only promoted once!.....is there such things as-along the years, their position become higher...meanging the five ranking title "公,侯伯,子,男"...like mankind...started as engineer, over the years promoted to become Senior Engineers, Managers, Directors.....so forth.

  7. Hahahahaha.. of cos thats possible, just like a few temples in Singapore, they do have such practises, usually such issues will be announce by the Mediums (saying that who and who is given the authority to be who and who, etc).

But again, some can be man-made due to marketing of the Deity that they have in the temple or to make one temple popular by giving impression that the temple's deity is so real and powerful, etc.

  8. Yah! you are right. We could see a lot of temple using the "feng" title "王","公","侯 王" "", and "爷" very freely...."元" is supposed to be used only we the Emperor summoned a Deity for War....and he is given the "" flag....to be the Commander of the Army.

  9. Hahahahaha.. good that you see the point.

This is why, sometime we need to introduce the true fact of our Chinese History and the Deity System to this group of people, once they understand how our Chinese Imperial Court System works, they will understand.

  10. Thanks! another interesting one. I'm a Hainanese...when Hainanese medium in trance they tend to be much simpler. They do not have any head gear, cloak, body/leg gear etc......Hainanese medium only has a yellow/red pants...plus a red strip tie around their heads... Is there any reason for such elaborate costume...per of Dao De Jing....things should be simple and i guess during the pre-war time....medium has such elaborate custome? There is an interesting book about Ritual is Threatre and Threatre is about Rituals...quite interesting

  11. To be accurate, thats the dressing for all dialect grp mediums, just that nowadays, ppl like nice nice stuffs, so they invented alot of new stuffs for the mediums.

In the past, let say 50-60 yrs ago, medium got only a pair of red pants and a red stool to sit on, today.. all cost a bomb...

That book is by Margaret Chan, which I know her personally, she's an intelligent lady that all people worth learning from her. :P

  13. Hahahahahaha.. these 3 Deities, I think a year plus back I did reply to you liao, just that you donno who I am at that time.

They are Deities of Hainan which are closely related to the sea or water realms.

They are true historical characters in ancient history and after they passed-on, they are respected by the people as Deities. as for their names, not much people know abt that.

Due to they are newly bestowed deities, no mantras are being recorded for them.

  14. Thanks! I may have missed your earlier reply......my family has been praying to these 3 Deities for more than 50 years......from my grandfather generations......By the way, who actually "write" or author the mantars?? and who approve it??

    ReplyDelete
  15. There's a few saying on the writing, one of them is by Deities passing down the mantras to High Priests or Cultivated people while they doing meditation or astro-visiting, another is by Authorise Personel who work for Heaven, etc...

No one can create the mantras unless he/she has extremely strong connection with any of the Deities - this is not possible nowadays.

  16. I have theirs' "神咒文".....is there a difference between "神咒文" and mantars??

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thanks...look's like the 3 Deities my family has been praying is quite high in ranking and position...will internet my family members/relatives about that immediately...thanks a lot for that enlightment...sometime we just need to turn to someone for advise.

  18. Hahahahahaha.. definitely there's differences, Bao Gao and Shen Zhou are different.

  19. hahahaha... not chim la.. soon when u understand, all these are nothing to you liao :P

I'm sure you will get the meaning one day soon.

  20. Why medium in trance has to be "bare-body"; reason for that plus Why Gods needs to used sword and other piercing objects to inflict on their bodies when they are in trance especially during celebrations???Pls help.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Bare body as in No-clinging to any Mortal World physical stuffs (pants as to cover the unseen portion of the body).

For the use of weapons on the mediums' bodies, there's a few saying, one of the most reasonable one will be, in-order to get-rid of any form of disasters on behalf of the Mortals, the mediums will hav to sacrifice themselves by bleeding, etc...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks! for the enlightenment....but still don't quite get the first part of the; Bare Body reason....."No-clinging to any Mortal World physical stuffs"";;now quite a lot of medium is wearing the cloak....half body out-fit...don't mind explaining in another simplified version...thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hahahahaha.... medium is only a form of media for the deities or shall I said, the energy of the deities to enter in-order to convey the messages to the mortal.

and so, whether there's any nice clothing or not, its not important.. this is why i said No-clinging to physical stuffs from the mortal world.

  24. Any follow-up answer to my earlier question? pls help.
Another one; I realised that majority of group/family/temples statues(kimsin) seem to be "brown/black" due to incense over the years...why people don't refurished it to look new. My family current praying to the 3 Deities which I had earlier mentioned, we send for refurished...say every 3 to 5 years to make them look "gold" and new.........is there any reason for that....my grandfather told me that the Deities want to "look" new and it will bless the family.....any explanation.......pls help

    ReplyDelete
  25. This is one of the misunderstanding that alot of folks have.. the more black, the more powerful the statue is.. actually this type of thinking is not accurate.

A statue must be kept clean and clear and look fresh whenever we can, and this is why some people or places will tend to make a glass container to hide them inside (but this is not encouraged).

The best way is like what u have done... refurnish at a certain years or clean it every year after sending them back to Heaven (only certain grps of Deities are being to be sent back).

  26. Excellent...same thoughts...i guess a lot of temples have a lot of so-called man-made rules/regulations for whatever reasons....my grandfather left us quite a fair bit of theories about Deities and slowly myself n family are benefiting from it...and cheers. My family will be attending the Confucius ceremony at "San Qing Gong" Changi this weekend.

  27. Its good that you follow what your Grandfather passed down to you all... great to hav the culture going on. May Heaven bless on you and your father and also your grandfather.

I'm invited to attend the Grand Ritual conducted at Thian Hock Kheng. An ancient special ceremony dedicated to Kong Fu Zi.
