Lunar Year Customs – 11th Day of Lunar New Year (農曆正月習俗之初十一請女婿)

Eleventh Day of Lunar New Year, another Day that the In-laws will make invitation to the Son-in-laws to return to the In-laws home to be guest on the 12th Day.

On the 11th Day, the In-laws will ask the younger brother of the daughter to go to the Brother-in-laws home to pass the message or invitation-card. Once the Brother-in-law received the message or card, he will need to issue an Ang Pao to the younger brother as a form of gratitude and also, the custom of Elder giving Ang Pao to the Youngest.

Upon receiving the message or card, the Son-in-law cannot reject the invitation and so, he will need to prepare the necessary items, such as live-chickens, cookies, wine, etc, for the visiting on the next day.

And on the 12th Day, this is also a day to show the In-laws that how well one self has take good-care of the wife and so, the Son-in-law will ask the daughter to put on gold chains, expensive stuffs to do a show-off in front of the In-laws house.
