Category:Other

5th Day of Lunar 1 Month is consider as the Manifestation Anniversary of Deity of Wealth.

On this Day, Taoists & Chinese will visit Temples to pay respect to Deity of Wealth and also, to request for the Blessing of Fortune for the New Lunar Year.

In Singapore, due to some mis-concept and mis-teaching, a lot of Taoists & Chinese tend to Usher in the Deity of Wealth on the Eve or the 1st Day of Lunar New Year, which is not Accurate & Correct. But 1 thing I felt Good and Comfort is that, after some Temples & Sintuas approached me for the Lunar New Year Customs & Practices, this Year, most of the Temples & Sintuas that approached me had changed their In-correct Practices to the Upright & Accurate Customs. Really Good to them and also, Credits in Guiding the Taoists & Chinese back to the Original & Positive Practices.

Ok, in this Link (http://javewu.multiply.com/journal/item/186/186), we talked about how to Usher in the Fu Lu Shou 3 Star Lords, in here, I will like to touch on a bit on the Ushering in of Deity of Wealth.

Long Shan Men Ushering of New Lunar Ji Chou Year (龍山門開年節儀式)

Kai Nian Jie (開年節), a Traditional Hokkien term used to describe the Ushering In of a New Lunar Year, in some other Hokkien Contexts, Ushering In of a New Lunar Year can also be addressed as Kai Zheng (開正).

Few Hours ago, Long Shan Men (龍山門) had conducted the Ceremony of Ushering in the New Lunar Ji Chou Year for Physical Year 2009, Paying Respect to Yuan Shi Tian Zun (元始天尊) and also, Ushering in Fu Lu Shou - The Three Star Lords (福祿壽).

This Year, the Ushering in of Ji Chou Year was being conducted in Long Shan Men's HQ - Da Luo Yu Qing Fu (大羅玉清府).

As you can see in some of the Pictures, I had used the Gift-set of Baba & Nyonya Tableware for holding the different types of Offerings.

Ushering in of Fu Lu Shou on the 1st Day of Lunar New Year (恭迎福祿壽三星臨門)

In South East Asia, due to Commercialization and Mis-concept, alot of Taoists & Folks tend to perform the Ushering of Deity of Wealth on the Eve or 1st Day of Lunar New Year, which this is totally In-correct and Ignorant. Recently in Singapore, there are even The-Claimed-Taoist-Organisations conducting the Ushering in of Deity of Wealth for Devotees and asking them to participant in the Ceremony, This is seriously distorting the Upright Culture of Taoism and Chinese Customs.

In here, I will like to advise Taoists & Chinese not to get Con by such Temples, Organisations, etc. Cos Ushering in of Deity of Wealth can only be done on the 5th Day of Lunar New Year or 11.30Pm on the 4th Night of Lunar New Year.

So who we Usher in on the Eve or the 1st Day?

They are actually Fu Lu Shou - the Three Star Lords of Prosperity, Fortune (Career/Academic) and Longevity (detailed Introduction here: http://javewu.multiply.com/photos/album/298/298).

So what shall oneself prepared?

For the Ushering of Fu Lu Shou, actually is very easy and simple.

Just prepare a set of 3 Good Incenses, 3 cups of warm Chinese Tea or Wine and a set of 5 Oranges.

After preparing, set up the Offerings on a small Desk that faces the Heaven (any Direction).

Once everything is ready, Recite the Offering Incense Mantra and then call upon the Title of Fu Lu Shou Xing Jun (福祿壽三星君).

After that, report who you are and where you stay, then make your simple Request.

Once finished, make 3 sincere Bows and then return back into the House.

After entering into the House, leave the Door open (with Gate locked for safety) until the whole family going to rest.

Once All these are done, Fu Lu Shou the 3 Star Lords will Blessed on the whole Family with All the necessary Blessings (better off then just getting Blessing from Deity of Wealth).

Do also look up into the Sky, cos Tonight, Fu Lu Shou Stars (Orion Stars) are usually the Brightest in the whole Year.

Do remember, do not go to any Un-official Temples or Organisation to join in any such Ceremonies, especially those that required Big Sum of Money. They are just trying to use the Name of Deities to gain the Un-necessary Money.

Last of All, wishes All:

福到祿到壽星到。
Fu Dao Lu Dao Shou Xing Dao

財旺運旺富貴旺。
Cai Wang Yun Wang Fu Gui Wang

Manifestation Anniversary of Yuan Shi Tian Zun (元始天尊萬壽聖誕)

1st Day of Lunar 1 Month, besides celebration and ushering in the New Lunar Year, Taoists & Chinese will also celebrate the Manifestation Anniversary of Yuan Shi Tian Zun (元始天尊), the Main Key Taoist Deity in the San Qing Group aka Three Pure Ones (三清道祖).

On this Day, Taoists & Chinese will visit Temples to pay respect to Heaven, Deities and also Yuan Shi Tian Zun for Blessings.

In Singapore, it is not easy to find an Official Taoist Temple dedicating Altar to San Qing, so if oneself is interested and sincerely wanted to pay respect to Yuan Shi Tian Zun, my advise is to, pay your respect at Home in-front of the Main Altar or, at the Heavenly Urn outside your home.

While paying respect to Yuan Shi Tian Zun, oneself need not need to prepare alot of Offerings. As long as you can pour 3 Cups of warm Chinese Tea with 5 Oranges, a Pair of Red Candles and a set of Good Incenses, sincerely & faithfully pay respect to Yuan Shi Tian Zun, I'm sure your message will be transmitted to him within seconds. Do not make any un-necessary un-realistic requests.

If there isnt any Manifestation of Yuan Shi Tian Zun, there wont be any Universe in this Big Dao. So do pay your Most Sincere Respect and Gratitude to him.

May All of you get the Big Dao Blessing by Yuan Shi Tian Zun on the Lunar New Year Day.

Long Shan Men Lunar Ji Chou Year Greeting (龍山門己丑賀新年)

Dear All,

On behalf of Zheng Yi Long Shan Men Taoist Sect (正一龍山門) & Various different Departments, Jave Wu (正一大孝/孝華君) here will like to express my Sincerely & Truely Thanks to those who have given Long Shan Men Taoist Sect & Me the fullest Support for the past few Years.

Here, I will like to send the New Year Greeting to all of you.

Wishes All, All the best and Successful in whatever you do in the Year of Ji Chou.

Here's a Greeting Banner dedicated to All:

Offering the First Set of Incenses to the Deities (新年獻頭香)

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other

At the End of an Old Lunar Year and at the Beginning of a New Lunar Year, Taoists and Chinese will tend to rush (with Push & Pull) to Temples or any Religious Venues to offer their First Set of Incenses to the Deities, in Chinese known as Tou Xiang (頭香).

But do you all know that, since the First Temple that allows Taoists and Chinese to offer the First Set of Incenses, the Temple has being showing the wrong practice to the Public and also not performing it correctly.

In Taoism & Chinese Customs, the Offering of the First Set of Incenses to the Heaven & Deities must be done in a Calm, Peaceful & Happier method, but now, in the Folks Market, you will see Fighting, Bidding, Bribing & Snatching to get hold of the Only & First chance to place the Incenses into the Urn, which is not Correct & Upright.

And I can strongly & frankly to tell you all that, People who offer the First Set of Incenses in this method wont be Blessed or Look-after by the Heaven or Deities, vice-versa, the Luck & Fortune will be affected immediately after the 15th Day of Lunar 1 Month.

So what is the Meaning of Offering the First Set of Incenses?

Actually, the Offering of the First Set of Incenses means that, in anytime of the Lunar New Year Period, oneself Offered the very First Set of Incenses to the Heaven & Deities and not, snatching to be the First Person to grab the Choice of putting in the Incenses into the Urn of any Temples.

To be honest, the Best Place to offer the First Set of Incenses to the Heaven & Deities is at Home. For those who does not have an Altar, then just visit any nearby Temples to offer your First Set of Incenses, not necessary to be accurately at 0000 Hour (子時), any day or any time in the Lunar New Year Period is considered Fine & Okay.

And remember, to do it Correctly & Uprightly.

So how to do it Correctly & Uprightly?

Here is the Taoist Official Practice:

1) Oneself or the Family Members must Clean-up and also make sure that the Home is Clean (visiting Temples, no choice but to accept)
2) Get the Long Incenses of about or more than 48cm (to request to Longevity & Prosperity)
3) Light the Incenses with your Left Hand and fan-off the Flame with Right Hand (do not blow off the Flame with your mouth, this is a form of Dis-respect)
4) Sincerely Stand In-front of the Altar or any Spot that you can see the Sky (not necessary to squeeze with people inside the Temple)
5) Make 3 Sincere Bows
6) Recite the Offering Incense Mantra (祝香神咒):

道由心學。心假香傳。
Dao You Xin Xue. Xin Jia Xiang Chuan

香熱玉爐。心存帝前。
Xiang Re Yu Lu. Xin Cun Di Qian

真靈下盼。仙旆臨軒。
Zhen Ling Xia Pan. Xian Pei Lin Xuan

今民關告。經達九天。(for Priests, we will recite 今臣關告 Jin Chen Guan Gao)
Jin Min Guan Gao. Jin Da Jiu Tian

7) Make 3 Bows again
8) Report who you are, what is the Event Today and where you stay
9) Request the necessary Requests
10) After requests being made, make 3 Bows
11) Offer the Incenses into the Urn and walk off.

In total, you will need to make 9 Bows, this is the Ultimate Chinese Customs of giving the Highest Respect, without these 9 Bows and Recitation of the Zhu Xiang Zhou, most of the Request wont be answered.

So, this Year, try to be perform the Offering of First Set of Incenses in the Official Way. Dont be part of the Ignorant Folks and end-up fighting & quarreling with the others on the First Day of Lunar New Year.

All the Best.

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other

In Lunar New Year, Taoists and Chinese will always like to consume Dishes that come with Nice & Auspicious Meaning.

In here, I will like to do a quick summary on the various Auspicious Dishes that we always eat during the Reunion Dinner.

Item 1: Chinese Leek aka Suan Miao (蒜苗)

In Chinese Customs, Chinese Leek got the meaning of Calculating of Wealth & Increasing in Wealth. This is why, Chinese love to eat this before the New Year arrive - to get the Blessing of Calculating Good Wealth in the Next Lunar New Year.

Besides representing the Wealth Increasing, Chinese Leek also got a meaning of Justice & Pure. In Chinese we called it Yi Qing Er Bai (一清二白). In the Ancient Era, when someone if being wrongly accused, the Family Members can hang this Chinese Leek on the Accuse-Party in-order to gain the attention of the Magistrate Officer.

Item 2: Spring Onion aka Qing Cong (青蔥)

Spring Onion, got the meaning of Intelligent & Wisdom. Taoists or Chinese will like to cook Spring Onion with Beancurd for young kids, hoping that after the kids grown up, they can be Intelligent, Clever and blessed with Good Wisdom.

Same as Chinese Leek, Spring Onion sometimes will be used to replace Chinese Leek for Justice & Pure.

Item 3: Chinese Chives aka Jiu Cai (韭菜)

Chinese Chives, got the meaning of Permanent & Prolonging of the Timing. Usually this Chives will be used to give Blessing to Newly-wed Couples or Students who is taking Important Tests (to wish them getting the Best Result and Prolong the Wisdom in such events).

They hope that, by consuming the Chinese Lettuce, they will be Blessed with the Luck of Gaining more Wealth in the Next Lunar Year and the Deities of Wealth will be there to guide on them thru out the Year.

Item 5: Beancurd aka Dou Gan (豆干)

Beancurd aka Dou Gan, in Hokkien, being Pronouce as Thao Khwa. Khwa got the same Pronouciation as Officer (getting Promotion) in Hokkien and so, in Traditional Hokkien Custom, Beancurd is always being used in Occasions that are associated with Promotion, New-born Babies, Wedding or while students sitting for Tests.

Item 6: Fishball & Meatball aka Rou Wan Zi (肉丸子)

Fishball & Meatball, got the shape of a Round Ball. In Chinese Customs, Round Objects will have the meaning of Reunion and a New Start.

On the Eve of Lunar New Year, the Family will like to be Blessed with the Prolonging of the time for the Whole Family to gather around and so, each of the Family Member will have to consume a Fishball or Meatball while they having their Reunion Dinner.

For some Families, they will consume the Sweet-dumpling aka Ee (湯圓) in the Afternoon straight after the Honouring of Ancestors.

Item 7: Full Fish aka Quan Yu (全魚)

After the Dinner ends, the Full Fish will be kept aside and on the next Morning, which is the First Day, the Full Fish will be heated-up and then the whole Family will have another round of Reunion Meal, only then, the Full Fish is allowed to be eaten.

Meat/Vegetable Roll, known as Run Bing in China & Taiwan, but in South East Asia, it changed its name to Bo Bing aka Popiah.

Rating:★★★
Category:Other

Cleaning for Lunar New Year is a Must for Most of the Taoist & Chinese Home, but alot of our dearest Taoists & Chinese forget that, by Cleaning is only a form of Physical Cleaning, actually the Cleaning that a Family needed is the Spiritual Cleansing.

So what is Spiritual Cleansing?

Spiritual Cleansing is a form of Spiritual Cleaning that uses a few Spiritual Method to do the Cleaning of one's Home in-order to eliminate the un-necessary Negative Energies that stayed inside the home before ushering in the New & Positive Lunar New Year.

By performing such Cleansing, one's home will somehow be more Positive and more comfortable to stay in. Another reason for such Cleansing, to invite the Necessary Blessing from Heaven & Deities while oneself & the Family Pay Respect to the Heaven & Deities on the Eve of Lunar New Year.

So what is the Best time for such Cleansing?

Usually I will advised People to perform the Cleansing in the Afternoon straight after Paying Respect to Deities & Ancestors or before the Whole Family gathered for the Reunion Dinner.

So what are the Spiritual Cleansing Methods?

Here are a few recommended ones:

1) Using Yin-Yang Water & Five Color Flowers (陰陽水及五色花)

2nd, choose 5 Color Flowers (best not to use White or withered Flower)
3rd, Throw the Flowers into the Yin-Yang Water and placed there for about 5-15 minutes, this is to allow the Energies from the surrounding to Settle into the Water
4th, Clean the Whole House starting from the Main Door, clean it inward till you reach the Toilet
5th, Retrieve the Flowers and Throw them into your Plant-pots or pack them up in a plastic bag and throw them under the Trees

2) Using Yin-Yang Water & Pomelo or Promegrante Leaves (陰陽水及柚子葉/石榴葉)

1st, prepared a Pail of 30% Warm Water & 30% Cold Water, mix them well.
2nd, Choose 3 Good Pomelo Leaves or a Stick of about 8cm Stem-Promegrante Leaves

3) Using Yin-Yang Water & Sea-Salt (陰陽水及海鹽)

1st, prepared a Pail of 30% Warm Water & 30% Cold Water, mix them well.
2nd, get a Pack of Sea-Salt (Not Consuming-Salt. Sea-Salt can be brought in Aquriam-shop or Crystal Shop)
3rd, Throw a Spoon-ful (porcelain spoon) of Sea-Salt into the Yin-Yang and placed there for about 5-15 minutes, this is to allow the Energies from the surrounding to Settle into the Water
4th, Clean the Whole House starting from the Main Door, clean it inward till you reach the Toilet
5th, Pour the Yin-Yang Sea-Salt Water into the Drain at your Corridor

4) Using Huo Xiang, Gan Cao & Sandal-wood (藿香。甘草及檀香)

Rating:★★★★★
Category:Other

Dear All,

After Dong Zhi (冬至) aka Winter Solstice of Year 2008, all Paying of Gratitude to Lord Tai Sui of Wu Zi Year (戊子年太歲) will end (for those who miss this, usually will do it before 16th Day of Lunar 12 Month of Wu Zi Year or the Day of Thanksgiving Ceremony 答謝神恩).

And after sending off of Deities on the 25th Day of Lunar 12 Month of Wu Zi Year, all people who got the Effect of Conflict with Lord Tai Sui of Ji Chou Year, can prepared to pay their respect to Lord Tai Sui of Ji Chou Year - known as General Fu You (傅佑), General Pan You (潘佑) or General Pan Gai (潘蓋).

So when is the Best timing or Accurate Day to pay respect to General Fu or General Pan?

According to Chinese Custom & Taoist Practice Records, the Best & Accurate Day to pay respect to a the Lord Tai Sui of the New Lunar Year starts on Li Chun Day (立春) - which means that, the Initial Starts of the Spring Season (a lot of people may think that the 1st Day of Lunar 1 Month is the start of a New Lunar Year, but actually is not, if we are to go according to the Old Ancient Calendar, Li Chun shall be the actual day of the arrival of Spring Season).

Last Year, I had touched on the Simple & Basic Info on this Important Day (you can read the intro at: http://javewu.multiply.com/reviews/item/83), this Year, I will like to concentrate more on the Spiritual or so-called Religious Side of the Thanksgiving Ceremony.

For us as the Zheng Yi Taoists or Priests (正一門徒及道士), usually we will start the Offering or Ushering of Jade Emperor of Heaven's arrival on the 24th Night (around 11.00Pm in Singapore).

If oneself is not able to perform the Ushering on the 24th Night, then oneself can do it in the Morning on the 25th Day.

For those who does not have an Altar at Home and yet you wished to Usher-in the Deities to do Inspection & Blessing at your Home, remember to clean your home and switch-on most of the Lights at Home on the 24th Night. Make sure that your House is Clean and Smell-nice. Try to keep the Door (remember to lock your Gate as to prevent Thiefs coming in) & Window open. On the 25th Day, just visit any Official Temples to pay respect to the Deities to request for Blessing.

Do not argue or quarrel after 10.00Pm on the 24th Night. Try to stay Peace and Calm for the Day. Once the Deities arrived and the Inspection is being Done, certain Remarks will be made and recorded and this will contribute to the Luck-distribution for the Next New Lunar Year.

So what do we need to prepare (in whole)?
