Pictures of Lord White Tiger Xue Ren Gui (白虎星化薛仁貴)

Xue Ren Gui (薛仁貴) aka Xue Li (薛禮), born in Late Sui Dynasty (CE614 生于隋朝末年), hometown in Jiang Zhou Long Men Area (now as Shan Xi Province, He Jin Area 家鄉於絳州龍門縣﹐今為山西省河津).

Due to Xue Ren Gui grew up in a poor family, his parent arranged an early marriage for him, in order to have more man-power to assist in the family financial. And so, at a young age, he married a girl named Liu Ying Chun 柳迎春 (in myth, this girl was a rich-man's daughter which she didn’t obeyed her parent’s order and married to the poor Xue Ren Gui).

Soon, Sui Dynasty engaged in battles with the Tang Armies, which led by Li Shi Min 李世民 (which later, he ascended the Throne as the 2nd Emperor of Tang Empire). With such battles happened, it created opportunity for Xue Ren Gui to serve the Nation. Soon after Xue Ren Gui volunteered himself, he was chosen.

Due to the weak planning of Sui Dynasty, Sui Dynasty was being over thrown by Li Shi Min's armies. After Li Shi Min got the Empire, Li Shi Min assisted his father Li Yuan (李淵) to ascend the throne to be the first Emperor of Tang Dynasty, which later known as Emperor Tang Gao Zu (唐朝第一帝唐高祖).

After Emperor Li Yuan retired, Emperor Li Shi Min got the throne (in myth, Li Shi Min killed his 2 brothers to get the throne), Xue Ren Gui was being promoted to General-in-Charge of the Nation Armies.

CE658, Xue Ren Gui was being promoted to a higher Officer by Emperor Tang Gao Zong (唐高宗), the son of Emperor Li Shi Min.

CE683, Xue Ren Gui passed away with an age of 70.

In myth, Xue Ren Gui was a reincarnation of the General White Tiger (白虎星君) of the Celestial Armies Department in the Heavenly Realm and the father of Xue Ding Shan (薛丁山之父) & grandfather of Xue Gang (薛剛之祖).

After Jade Emperor knowing that the Mortal Realm would be engaging into battles again, Jade Emperor appointed General White Tiger to reincarnate into the Mortal Realm to end the battles fast, in order to decrease the sufferings of the Mortals.

Upon receiving the Celestial Order, General White Tiger came to the Mortal World and got his reborn into this Xue Family. On the night of his reborn, Emperor Li Shi Min got a dream of a young General wearing white robe running towards him, in order to save him from a sudden-attack. Immediately after he saw the face of the young General, Emperor Li Shi Min woke up. From then, he advised his subordinates to look around in the whole country for someone who look like the one he saw in the dream.

Soon after he gave the order, Xue Ren Gui volunteered himself for the serving of Nation and this was how, Xue Ren Gui was being highly respected by Emperor Li Shi Min.

After he got the promotion, Emperor Li Shi Min even bestowed him with the title of Bai Pao Jiang Jun (白袍將軍) – meaning, General of White Robe.

Till today, in a lot of Temples or Altars that dedicated to Xue Ren Gui, they still use this title for him.

In some areas, Xue Ren Gui was being honoured as the Deity who in-charge of the White Tiger Lords – to get rid of all mishaps and misfortune, etc.

  9. Hahahaha.. this applies to all, not only sintua.

Temples, Shrines, Homes, etc have to follow the so-called Chinese Deity System in the placing of the statues, etc.

  11. Hi Jave,

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the myth and historical facts on Xue Rengui. I have been watching the Hokkien operas by Yang Lihua, and wanted to recheck some of the history - not to correct the shows, but more for my own curiosity.

I need to do a little correction here.

"After Emperor Li Yuan retired, Emperor Li Shi Min got the throne (in myth, Li Shi Min killed his 2 brothers to get the throne), Xue Ren Gui was being promoted to General-in-Charge of the Nation Armies."

Li Shi Min did kill his 2 brothers - Li Jiancheng (Crown Prince), and Li Yuanji (Prince of Qi) at Xuanwu Gate in 626 AD.

  12. Yup, in Chinese History Records, indeed there are saying that Li Shi Min did killed his elder bro Li Jian Cheng & Younger Bro Li Yuan Ji (same said Li Yuan Ba)
