Here's the quick intro on terms that the Ancient Era used to mark the different Hours in the Night Time:
The Night will start with –
Huang Hun (黃昏) aka Evening
Ren Ding (人定) aka Resting Time
Ye Ban (夜半) aka Mid-night
Ji Ming (雞鳴) aka Rooster Roar
Ping Dan (平旦) aka Sun rise
For the above terms, they have different names too, here they are:
Huang Hun – Jia Ye (甲夜) or Chu Geng (初更)
Ren Ding – Yi Ye (乙夜) or Er Geng (二更)
Ye Ban – Bing Ye (丙夜) or San Geng (三更)
– (this is how the Chinese Idom San Geng Ban Ye 三更半夜 come about.)
Ji Ming – Ding Ye (丁夜) or Si Geng (四更)
Ping Dan – Wu Ye (戊夜) or Wu Geng (五更)
And so, what is the relationship of the Ancient Terms with Modern Timing Hour?
Here they are:
Huang Hun starts from 1901 to 2100
Ren Ding starts at 2101 to 2300
Ye Ban starts at 2301 to 0100
Ji Ming starts at 0101 to 0300
Ping Dan starts at 0301 to 0500
At here, you might be wondering, in the Ancient Era, Sun rise is at 0301 to 0500? This is what most of the people might wonder too. And the answer that I can give you is Yes. Till today, most Asia countries do have early Sun rise.
yup in some part of china the sun rise is at 430am
