Pictures of the 36 Spiritual Nannies (臨水宮三十六奶娘)

The 36 Spiritual Nannies (三十六奶娘) aka 36 Madams of Lin Shui Palace (三十六宮夫人). They are the 36 assistants of Madam Lin Shui Chen Jing Gu (臨水夫人陳靖姑) (assisting Madam Lin Shui in taking care of the babies, etc).

According to records, these 36 Nannies will actually the 36 Maids in the Palace, which later being eaten up by the Snake Demon (which subdued by Madam Lin Shui) while the Snake Demon transformed herself as the Empress of Duke Min Wang Yan Bing (閩王王延彬).

After Madam Lin Shui subdued the Snake Demons, she summoned the souls of these 36 Maids out to ask for the location of where the Snake Demon buried their bones. Immediately after Madam Lin Shui know the exact location, she went to retrieve their bones and with her Spiritual Ability, Madam Lin Shui turned the bone back to human form and by enhancing the souls back into the bodies, the 36 Maids got back to life.

Soon after the Maids got back to life, the 36 Maids made vows to follow Madam Lin Shui in subduing of demons and warding off of negative entities. From then, they were given the titles of the 36 Spiritual Nannies or 36 Madams of Lin Shui Palace.
