No Relationship doesn't equal to No Feeling (無情或無義)

A lot of Spiritual People (including Priests, Monks, Leaders, Masters/etc) keep emphasizing this to me: "when you reach a certain level of learning on your religion (or so-called Cultivation), you will find yourself enclosed-up against all un-necessary feelings or saying-of-you or soon, you become Alone".

At first, I don't really take that seriously and important, cos I'm always a person who will go against certain planning or so-called rules/regulations to seek for a "New beam of light", but to this, I totally surrendered.

I must admit that the saying they told me is true and perfectly true.

This morning, while taking a slow stroll in the cold drizzling, one question pop-up in my mind, "What is a relationship?"

I couldn't answer and I couldn't find a suitable word/phrase to satisfy myself for this question.

The immediate reaction that reacts in my mind, after the question appeared and searching for answer, is NULL. NULL not as in nothings, but in a form of NULL that I know and yet in a form that I can't get hold of or used words to describe.

Or this is what the Spiritual People told me – Alone.

Alone, after many rounds of digging out the meaning of this word and retrieving back all what I had learned in the past and all the sayings I got, FINALLY, I found out that actually the word Alone could mean a lot...

(All the following thoughts only appeared after I agreed to let go of the word "Relationship (in certain contexts)" in Chinese - Qing 情)

A lot of people might think that Alone is a form of physical action that a person will closed-up him/herself from all the physical contacts/interactions of other mortals, but actually such action is not accurate or I can say it shall be vice-versa – getting oneself to get more physical contacts/interactions with other mortals and felt how they felt, their immediate reactions or emotions, etc.

Alone, in here, is not a physical action but a form of mind-disciple/soul-disciple/physical-action-disciple of oneself actions against certain issues or events (may it be major or minor, may it be life or death).

Example, like making oneself to think properly before react or after reacting to a certain issue, oneself will have to bear the consequences, etc (in Buddhism called Karma, in Taoism called Cheng (乘) – Continue or take-over and Fu (負) – carried forward or passing-down).

Even though, we have to put down or sacrifice our certain Relationships, but in Taoism, Three Relationships that one shall not give-up or sacrifice, they are:

1 – Parent's Relationship
2 – Master & Disciple Relationship
3 – Loyalty to a Kingdom/Empire/Country Relationship

Once a person give-up the above 3 mentioned Relationships, he/she will not be eligible to call him/herself a Taoist, cos in Taoism, giving up the relationships of the any above is consider as Deeply Sinful.

Back to my issue, so am I a NO Relationship or so-called Cold-blooded person now?

If you think that I'm one, I cant really denied, but if you don't think that way, you may think then who am I?

This is easy, in-order to see things in a more optimistic way/having a clearer view, you have to try to put down the un-necessary relationships, only by putting them down, your burden will be lessen and the pathway that you taking to reach the peak will be much more easier and lighter.

Don't you feel that way too?

Let's ponder on the whole question again, do you find something out from that?

If yes, you gain something.

If no, no worry, in time to come, you gain more things then we do.

  1. Can you indicate which Taoist texts actually mentions this and that it is sinful? The points especially #3 sounds more Confucianist than Taoist.

If it is easier please use Chinese characters to clarify. Thanks!

  2. for 4 to 7 years, me have been trying hard to put down the severe big blow from a boy-girl relationship... recently, me have found out the big blow at least i can treat it as an experience which i can learn to be more conscious and aware of my inner feelings and inner soul and inner mind... -_-

for these 4 to 7 years, me also leading a simple life by focusing more on little things which make up big things example saving for the next few days - i cannot save for a rainy day or save to marry as my job as a part time programmer in visual basic 2005 and repairing of computers and in the recycling line is still unstable for me as i need to pick up the broken pieces of my heart and mind and soul before i can think how to really plan for my future... -_-

lucky my research projects and some programmings in visual basic 2005 give me a better insight for my future possibly as an partial-rounder in computers... but i am stuck for now as starting a small business as a sole propietary need to open a bank account of at least 1k and although my visual basic 2005 is licensed, i still need to get another 2 licensed visual basic 2005 and a visual basic 6 and 1 or 2 new laptops and a few other licensed softwares which all i have problems getting without the needed finance before i can really "think" for the future... -_-

i say these out is not to acquire self-pity or pity from others... because i have already seen through the things about money from my past experience when i spent a lot on computers last time as an investment to the future... and now i also have depression which i must overcome and live with it graciously and carefully as i am live day to day simple and never as simple before in my life... -_- though computers are complex at times just as life is complex... -_-

my depression came from my pursue of study in a school after "o" levels when the school didn't allow me to repeat my final year as i had already repeated my 2nd and 3rd year... -_- and partially because i didn't have any good advice about going to private school for a more focused studying and i was worried about the finance support as my family was and - now also - is very very poor... -_-

me can say is investment average or above but cash poor... -_-

hope my past story can help a multiply friend who is still studying... i have thought of another option for her and is she can opt for another course which she likes in her current school... -_- if she still wants to continue the course, she must learn more about taking care of her health and soul and mind as the stress in the 3rd year can be very different...

but still, i wish her success in her study and her future!!!... -_-

may buddha bless her and her family and friends and neighbours and everyone!!!... -_-

  3. In Taoism, there's a few rules and regulations that we need to follow, they are:

    1) Xiao Dao aka Filial Piety or respectful (孝道) - which is not to dicard any connection with family members, especially Parent

    2) Zhong Yi aka Loyalty (忠義) - which is to serve Loyalty to Country and faithful to people who have faith in oneself

    3) Li Xin aka Trustworthy and resposiblity (禮信) - complete any tasks that are being appointed and keep promise till the end of the day.

It may sounds Confucianist but all these exist since Yellow Emperor set his rules and regulations for people in-order to strengthen the Empire that under his supervision (for those who dont know what's the position of Yellow Emperor in our Taoist Context, he's consider as our Ancestor of Initiating Taoism)

  5. But which Taoist text specifies these? If we go by the Daodejing 道德经we will see that the emphasis is quite different. Given that Taosim 道家 as commonly practiced is quite syncretic what are the possibilities that these were incorporated from Confucianism?

Another question would be what are the canonical texts in Taoism? Sorry for my questions, but I am still very new to this.

For a future post can you also talk more about the different Taoist traditions here in Singapore and maybe the region? How many sects are there? Which are orthodox and which are considered unorthodox?

    Thanks!

  6. Dao De Jing is just Dao De Jing, alot of people or those who try to claim themselves as Taoists like to promote Dao De Jing, as Dao De Jing is just only a record of Lao Zi (not Dao De Tian Zun), while he's doing his wandering around to get his mind clear and see the changes around the World before he step into the country of the "Unknown" - which later people make Dao De Jing as a very Holy Book, just like Bible of Christianity and Quran of Islam (very political means).

As for what I have posted here, it's not necessary to be stated in any Scriptures neither any Records, cos all these are born in us, the Chinese. If you will to look back at our History or even our Family Teaching, it shows.. and this is Taoism (now alot of the people just see the surface and not going thru all the hidden "emotions" under our very first initial feeling - where - in the soul/mind/physical action).

As for Taoism Canonical Text, Taoism does have alot, Dao De Jing is just only one of them.

Due to Taoism is being categorised into many major and minor Sects, the Canonical Texts will have to go according to see which Sects the person belongs to, etc.

As for whats the differences between Taoism and Confucianism, this I wont go into it, as it might get senstive in the sense that many Confucianists might not agree on the point of view from a Taoist or a Priest. :P (something to share, Kong Fu Zi got the idea of how to explain his thinking after meeting Lao Zi - after Lao Zi shared with him the idea of what is Tao)

  7. Is Taoism only for Chinese? If so, how do we define who is Chinese? How about the non-Chinese?

We can do a little thought experiment, we can also claim that our family teaching is actually based on Confucianism. As for the point that Kongzi got his ideas from Laozi, we can also say he did not, and that was only the later attempts of Taoism to show some association and that Taoism like most folk religion incorporated all these figures from history into their own..

Are there any common canonical texts among all Taoist sects? If there are none, what's stopping someone from creating his own sect with his own teachings and claiming it to be Taoism?

Also since Taoism can be generally taken to mean either 道家 or 道学,I think we will just stick to the former for discussion. The Daodejing is considered one of the most significant texts to 道学,but they do not treat it as holy the same way as other religious texts. From this I deduce you are referring only to 到家,or the more folk religion based Taoism.

  8. Hahahahaha.. Thanks for the enlightenment.

Think we shall stop here, if not, my Taoism Web will become any other Mix-and-Match Webs liao.

We can always continue the discussion somewhere else, if not, alot of people might get the wrong impression that we are starting a Religious Battle again.

    Hope you can understand.

  10. umm, perhaps, this would do well over at CHF perhaps, after all, the forum was meant for "primarily to discuss, argue, exchange and share ideas". :-)

  11. Hahahahahahaha.. to me, I seldom like to engage into any Multiple-Religious "Debating", cos till today, I have yet to see the real objective to do so, so the most, I can only share with all of you the information on Taoism that I have.

In the Society today, almost all people are too restricted or too committed to what they see, feel, think and protective against a lot of things that they think so-be-like-that and no-what-you-say, etc.

A lot of the people are still doing "Square One Dancing" (even in Taoism), so how much we discussed, we will sure to end-up in Square One.

So... to me... everything leave it to Nature ba... and just like my Quote: This is Tao. :P

  12. kekeke. Never heard about Square one dancing, but then, it certainly paints a vivid picture.

Nah, I prefer to keep my blog less of a forum, and more of a sharing place, that is why I was suggesting that this discussion would do well over in CHF.

  13. Hahahahahahaha... no problem.. I will sure to support la :P

"Square One Dancing", actually exist in all of us, just that we dont realise it only :P

Try it.. sometime it can be "more fun" than dancing break-dance... wahahahahahaha ;)

  14. Ah, but I disagree that CHF as it is today is primarily to discuss, argue, exchange and share ideas. :-)

  15. ....Sad, because a forum is no longer serves as a forum....
Sad, because the platform to discuss, argue, exchange and share ideas are lost...
