The 24 Department Officers that assist Lord Cheng Huang, in Chinese known as Er Shi Si (二十四司) or Si Ye (司爺).
Reason for them to exist in the Deities System is to assist Lord Cheng Huang aka Sheng Hong (城隍) or some-say the Ten Lords of the Manifested Heavenly Lord Tai Yi (十宮冥王) to do recording on individual issues that associated with Living Beings in the Mortal World in the Six main Departments known as Liu Cao (六曹).

in AnXi temple onli manage to see 12 i think ..or can i say actually 6 .. the rest i think is generals ..
ReplyDeleteNormal Temples only set for 6 or 12 (according to the ranking of the Sheng Hong or the so-called Boss of the SiYe).
ReplyDeleteOnly very High Ranking Authorities can used the total of 24 Department Officers.
In Spore, the most common one that we can see almost everywhere is Yin Yang Si (the one who travel within the Heavenly, Mortal and Nether World Realm).
Actually it's quite sad to know that in Spore, people only known abt Yin Yang Si, cos without the assitance of the other Si Ye, Yin Yang Si's tasks cannot be performed or etc.
In-order to have a much more better result, Temples or Tuas shall at least set an Altar for 6 Si Ye.
amitabha... -_-
ReplyDeleteoh that time u mention AnXi sheng ong is wat rank huh ??
ReplyDeletewell i think not all tuas need so much dieties .. need to base on the tuas need .. and also space is a concern .. and there is so many dieties in hell holdin diff position so i personally view there isnt much need to set an altar for it .. but unless temple might otherwise a diff thing ..=)
Hahahahahaha.. this is up to individual, in Taoism, all things happen out of natural, we cant force people to do things in one go.
ReplyDeleteWhen the time is right, the thing will just appear in front of you/tua/temple.
An Xi got a few Sheng Hong, not necessary to be the same one, have to see where the temple/tua located at or invite the Urn from.
But in overall, An Xi consider as Province, consider as the 4th Ranking.
haha yup .. agreed !! =)
ReplyDeleteoh okok .. i thought the head quarter onli got one ??
All Sheng Hong in An Xi is consider as the 4th Ranking unless special specified.
ReplyDeleteoh okok .. den where one consider the highest ranking ??
ReplyDeleteIn china, will be the Capital City, which now, no longer exist, so, you all shall know the answer la :P
ReplyDeleteAs in Singapore, the highest of all and the oldest in History will be the one at Tanjong Pagar now - Du Cheng Huang Miao, eventhought the temple used Du (Capital), but the Cheng Huang in the temple has a position ranking of the 2nd Level (next time when you there, above the offering table after entering the main door, lift up ur head and see the plaque).
But due to human conflictions/fame-fighting, most of taoists now dont regard that Cheng Huang, having the Highest Ranking in Spore, instead, taking other newer temples' Cheng Huangs as the leading one.
oh okok .. stil kinda chim .. as u when see u again haha thanks =p
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha.. nothing chim la... slowly ponder and you see the truth in it lo.
ReplyDeleteSee me? when we meet up, we can have a long chat liao.. hee hee
hahaha ya loh .. its nice knowing all these "unknown" history fr u haha
ReplyDeletehey bro, i understand that du = capital, hence the highest ranking. then after that??? cause i seen qing xi xian you bo zhu, and alot of differnt types of cheng huang. how do we know their "ranking" or the areas they are in charge of?
ReplyDeleteIn this world, there are many different type of Cheng Huang Ye in charge of those people living near to where his temple is.
