San Tai (三台), a Chinese astrology name for a group of stars that situated near the Great Dipper of the North (Bei Dou Xing 北斗星). In other contexts, San Tai aka as Tian Zhu (天柱), San Jie Xing (三階星), San Heng Xing (三衡星) or San Qi Xing (三奇星).
Due to Taoism Beliefs originated from the honoring of Nature Objects such as Sun, Moon, Mountains, Seas, Stars, etc, San Tai Xing was being imported into the Chinese Deity System and later in the Taoism History, being “humanized”.
So who are they in Taoist Deities Group?
San Tai Xing, known as San Tai Xing Jun, which each of them got an Official Title, they are:
Shang Tai (the 1st Star in the Group), known as Shang Tai Xu Jing Kai De Xing Jun (上台虛精開德星君)
Zhong Tai (the 2nd Star in the Group), known as Zhong Tai Liu Chun Si Kong Xing Jun (中台六淳司空星君)
Xia Tai (the 3rd Star in the Group), known as Xia Tai Qu Sheng Si Lu Xing Jun (下台曲生司祿星君)
So what are their tasks?
According to Spiritual Records and Taoist Scriptures, by paying respect to these 3 Star Lords, one self will be blessed with unlimited prosperities in academic field or any mishaps that are predestinated in one’s life time will be eliminated.
Besides that, San Tai Xing also assists Bei Dou Xing to control the movement of other Star Lords, etc. In some contexts, they are known as the “Premiers” of the Great Dipper Star group (為世間三公之職), which assists Bei Dou in the Life & Death Registration of Living Beings.

In alot of Taoist Scriptures, such as Bei Dou Jing - The Scripture of the Great Dipper of the North, San Tai Xing Jun are being mentioned and invited for the ritual/ceremony to witness the event and also to request for the necessary blessings for the mortals.
