Could see that lately a lot of people praying including temple celebration to these two brothers?...any reasons for the upsurge in nos. Secondly,...actually who do they belong to as compared to the normal deities that we pray......pls enlightenment??
Hahahahaha... as how they become so popular, I will keep this till the day we have a chance to meet, then I tell you why, cos this is not a place for us to discuss this issue.
As for where they belong, they are nether world constables (not deities) which assist Cheng Huang aka Sheng Hong to grab souls when people's age are up, etc.
Nowadays, a lot of people tend to mistaken them as assistants of Yama King la, Di Zang Wang la, etc... haizzz.. what a big mix-up.
Hahahaha....now i understand better their role. Then how about "Cow and Horse Head General" are they related to Elder/seoncd brother? ....another one; But how come during one temple celebrations, i saw more than 3 pairs of elder/second brothers together during trance???
to be more accurate, cow and horse generals are imported into our Chinese Deities System after Buddhism entered into China.
In one of our Taoist Scriptures, there is somehow a mention of these 2 generals, but to certain extend, they are only consider as constable or soul catchers, nothing special abt them.
Its possible to have more than a pair of such spirits exist in one dimension... as long as you know the theory of energies exist in the world, etc....
Folk religion adherents like myself believe that many pairs of Elder and Second Brothers exist in the Netherworld, and that the Bull and Horse Generals are subordinate to the Brothers. We also believe that the Brothers are in charge of escorting newly departed souls first to the City God's court and then to the Netherworld, while the Bull and Horse Generals are chief guards in charge of maintaining law and order in the Netherworld itself.
thanks for all those Tua Li Ya Pek Pics
