Pictures of Zhou Guang Ze of 36 Heavenly Generals (三十六天將之周廣澤天君)

Zhou Yuan Shuai (周元帥) aka Zhou Tian Jun (周天君) or Marshal Zhou, one of the 36 Heavenly Generals (三十六天將) & part of the Thunder Deities of the Celestial Thunderial Department (雷部) that assisted Xuan Tian Shang Di (玄天上帝) in assisting the subduing of demons & warding-off of negative entities.

Zhou Yuan Shuai, actual name known as Zhou Guang Ze (周廣澤) or Zhou Wu (周武), born in Zhou Dynasty (生于周朝) and some recorded as Pre-Tang Dynasty (又說生于隋朝), hometown unknown (家鄉不詳).

According to the Taoist Deity System Records, Zhou Guang Ze was actually a Manifestation of the Thunder Element. After Heavenly Lord Pu Hua released a Sound of Thunder into the Mortal Realm, Zhou Guang Ze was being manifested.

Upon the Manifestation, Zhou Guang Ze was being appointed to reborn into the Zhou Family as the Youngest Son of Old Master Zhou, a Honourable & Compassionate Elder.

At a young age, Zhou Guang Ze was able to make accurate Prediction on Negative Issues that happening in no time and this was how, Zhou Guang Ze got Well-known by his Village-mates.

By the age of 20, Zhou Guang Ze was able to summon Spiritual Energies from the Three Realms even though he was not being trained by any Masters or Priests. Due to his Supernature Spiritual Power, Zhou Guang Ze was being targeted by the Demons & Devils that stayed in a Mountain near his Home-village.

One Year, while Zhou Guang Ze was on his way to Dou Ge Mountain (斗隔山), a group of Demons approached him. Upon approaching, one of the Demons stand out and wanted to challenge with him on Spiritual Power. In-order to Eliminate these Demons, Zhou Guang Ze had to accept the Challenge and within moments, the Battle started.

Due to Zhou Guang Ze was being bestowed with Natural Spiritual Power, with just a form of Simple Visualization, he summoned some of the Thunderial Department's Thunder Marshals to Dou Ge Mountain to release the Eliminating Thunder. Within moment, the 1st Demon was being captured and beheaded. Seeing that the Leader was being killed, the other Demons started to become vicious and rebellious, they started to release theie Evil Energies.

Without noticing that one of the Demons was standing behind him, Zhou Guang Ze was being affected by the Evil Energies and immediately, Zhou Guang Ze got poison and his face changed to Green (Blue) color and Hair turned to Red. His face expression transformed into a Demonic-look. Upon knowing that his Appearance had changed, Zhou Guang Ze was totally upset and dashed his way into the deserted part of the Dou Ge Mountain.

Knowing that Zhou Guang Ze had vanished from the Battling, the other Thunderial Marshals had to eliminate the Demons on behalf of him and upon clearing the Demons, the Marshals returned back to the Celestial Palace to make their report.

After years of hiding, Zhou Guang Ze had reached a High Level of Spiritual Cultivation.

One year, while he was performing his Summoning of Thunder Marshals, a Dark & Positive Cloud appeared on top of Dou Ge Mountain. Zhou Guang Ze was shocked at first but after close observation being made, he saw a familiar form. Soon, the Cloud descended in front of him and immediately after the Cloud descended, he saw that on top of the Cloud was Xuan Tian Shang Di (玄天上帝), without any further hesitation, Zhou Guang Ze made his respect by making kowtows to Xuan Tian Shang Di.

Upon knowing Zhou Guang Ze had accomplished his Task, Xuan Tian Shang Di came to the Mortal Realm to bring him back to the Heavenly Realm for reporting.

Soon, Zhou Guang Ze was being brought to the Celestial Palace (天庭) and after meeting up with Jade Emperor of Heaven (玉皇大天尊), Zhou Guang Ze was being bestowed with the title Bei Fang Feng Lei Dang Gui Zhou Yuan Shuai (北方风雷荡鬼周元帅) and Xuan Tian Shang Di hand-over a Black Seven Stars Flag (七星皂旗) to him as a form of Authority & Recognition for Eliminating Demons & Evil Spirits.

Due to his Demonic Outlook that caused by the Evil Energies released during the Battling, till today, in some Temples, the Statue dedicated to Zhou Guang Ze come in Green Face, Red Hair & Poppy Eyes form. Hands holding on to a Melon-form Weapon or Sabre and a Seven Stars Flag.

Paper Offering Intro Series 2 - Five Ghostly Spirits Paper (祭祀紙禡簡介之五鬼紙)

Rating:★★★
Category:Other

In Taoism & other Chinese Religions, Paper Offering is one of the many types of Offerings that Chinese needed to prepare before any form of Honouring.

In here, I will like to share with ALL of you on a Type of Paper that being used to Get-rid & Eliminating Negative Energies or Entities.

This Type of Paper is known as Wu Gui Zhi (五鬼紙) aka The Five Ghostly Spirits Paper.

Due to misconception & misunderstanding, this Type of Paper is being Wrongly use in nowadays, Folks thought that by Burning this Type of Paper, Oneself will be able to gain Wealth Blessing, but actually is not.

So what is the Main Purpose of using this Type of Paper?

According to Records, this Type of Paper got a few Usages:

1) Sending-off Poverty & Stupidest (送窮及送笨)

2) Sending-off Backstabbers (驅趕小人)

3) Sending-off the Five Ghostly Spirits & other Negative Entities (送五鬼)

For First Point, in the Ancient Era, Folks tend to believe that Oneself becoming Poor & Stupid were due to the harassment or pestering by the Negative Entities or other Wandering Souls. In-order to Send-off or Get-rid of such Spirits, Oneself would needed to get hold of this Type of Paper and then, performed a Short Report to the Deities & Earth Deity and then Burn-off the Paper allowing the Deities to provide the Necessary Blessing for Getting-rid of the Spirits. Once the Spirits were being sent off, Oneself would be able to Gain the Wisdom & Wealth Blessing from Deities.

For Second Point, during the Honouring of Tiger Deity during Spring Season (驚螫日), this Paper will be needed. After Honouring the Tiger Deity, this Paper will be used to Wrap-up the Paper Figurine that represent Backstabbers. After then, the Wrap-up Package must be Burnt off. This is to represent that the Backstabbers are being Eliminated and Good Luck will followed.

For Third Point, to Send-off the Five Ghostly Spirits aka Wu Xiao Gui (五小鬼). Cos in Taoism, Wu Gui represent Trouble & Nuisances. Once Oneself started to feel Bad & Luck is Down, meaning that Oneself might somehow annoyed or disturbed the Wu Gui and so, Oneself will need to Send them Off as soon as Possible in-order to prevent More Un-necessary Issues to happen. And so, Oneself will prepare this Paper and some other Paper-offering and then, proceed to Outdoor Area to burn them off. By doing so, the Wu Gui will be Send off and Good Luck will be Blessed upon Oneself by the Deities.

So it is Good to Burn this Type of Paper whenever Oneself wants to Burn?

Due to misconception & misunderstanding, nowadays, Folks tend to Burn this Paper in Large amount, hoping that the Five Ghostly Spirits will be there to provide Wealth Blessing, which this is a Wrong-doing.

By Burning Large amount of this Paper, Oneself does not gain the necessary Blessing instead, will lead in other Issues. So to prevent any Un-necessary Issues to happen, Oneself shall prevent burning this Paper without any form of Guidance.

Paper Offering Intro Series 1 - Seven Stars Paper (祭祀紙禡簡介之七星紙/符)

Rating:★★★
Category:Other

In Taoism & other Chinese Religions, Paper Offering is one of the many types of Offerings that Chinese needed to prepare before honouring Deities & Ancestors.

Due to lack of Information and Passing-down on the Actual Usage & Knowledge on the various Paper Offerings, some of the Paper Offerings have been mis-used or being omitted by the Chinese as Time pass-by.

In here, I will like to do a brief intro on 1 type of Old and Rarely seen Paper Offering that Taoist or Chinese used while paying respect to Lord Bei Dou aka Bei Dou Xing Jun (北斗星君) - known as Qi Xing Zhi/Fu aka Seven Stars Paper (七星紙/符).

According to the Records on Paper Offerings, this Seven Stars Paper was being created in Late Ming Dynasty (明朝末年) or Early Qing Dynasty (清朝). This invention was to allow the Taoist or Chinese to honour the Lord Bei Dou and also, to get connected with the Lord Bei Dou in-order to get the Blessing on the Pro-longing of One's Age during this Physical Mortal Life.

Besides that, Taoist & Chinese also believed that, by Offering this Seven Stars Paper to Lord Bei Dou, Ones's Sins & Debts will be Eliminated or Cleared before & after Oneself Pass-on (death).

With the Blessing of the Lord Bei Dou, Oneself will be Blessed with Good Lucks and also, getting the Spiritual Assistances from the Deities of Prosperity & Fortune.

So how to Offer such Papers?

First, by just doing Burning on the 1st & 15th Day of the Lunar Month after honouring the Deities

Second, by doing Burning after Taoist Priests conducted the Honouring of Lord Bei Dou Ritual/Ceremony, in Chinese known as Li Dou (禮斗) or Bai Dou (拜斗)

Third, by doing Burning on every 7th Day of Lunar Month, cos in Taoism, Taoists believed that on every 7th Day of the Lunar Month, Lord Bei Dou will descend into this Mortal Realm to do Inspection on the Mortals on their Good & Bad doings.

So how many Pieces or Stacks to be Offered?

Usually One Piece to Seven Pieces will be used.

Any other Items needed to add to the Paper Offerings in-order to get the Best Effect?

Not necessary, but if Oneself is able to do Chanting on the Bei Dou Scripture (北斗真經) or Bei Dou Bao Gao (北斗寶誥) before the Burning-off of the Paper, that will be the Best.

So can we get such Papers in the Market now?

I can say its quite Impossible as not much People really know of how to use it nowadays.

Usually when People doing their honouring of Deities, they will just Offered the Normal Paper Offerings such as Shou Jin (壽金) or Gui Ren Paper (貴人紙), other than that, People will just regards them as Troublesome and Not-necessary.

Heavenly Marshal Zhao Gong Ming's Preaching (趙公明天君警世言)

In the Chinese Society now, alot of Chinese & Folks had treated or believed-in that Heavenly Marshal Zhao Gong Ming is one of the few Deities of Wealth that will provide the necessary Blessing to the Mortals for Luck & Wealth.

But if we will to look closely and study in-depth, actually Heavenly Marshal Zhao Gong Ming wont be Providing the Blessing instead, Looking after the Wealth Blessing for not being distributed out wrongly to un-necessary Mortals.

In here, I will like to share with ALL of you on a Preaching Phrase that being Pass-down by the Ancestors on what Heavenly Marshal Zhao Gong Ming said:

"金銀財帛。你求他求大家求。吾向誰求。
珠寶珍品。你要他要大家要。汝命不要。"

Jin Yin Cai Bo. Ni Qiu Ta Qiu Da Jia Qiu. Wu Xiang Shui Qiu.

Zhu Bao Zhen Pin. Ni Yao Ta Yao Da Jia Yao. Ru Ming Bu Yao.

These 2 Phrases actually say:

Gold, Silver & Money, everyone is requesting from me, but who knows that, where can I get the Gold, Silver & Money from in-order to distribute out to you all?

Treasures, Gems & Jewels, everyone also want, whenever oneself found that such Items appeared and first reaction, oneself will tend to rush forward to snatch the Items, usually most of the time, no one ever thought of their own Safety.

So in here, Heavenly Marshal Zhao actually want us to learn & be aware of, not ALL Wealth are suitable for Oneself. Never request too much and un-necessarily. Oneself shall try one's Best to gain the Necessary Wealth, such as by Working-hard, etc. Sometime, when a person gained any un-necessary Wealth, the person might not have Life to enjoy it, so no point of getting that sum.

Last of All, Hope that everyone here can ponder over the 2 Phrases and understand the In-depth meaning.

Titles, Addresses, Ranks, bestowed names for Deities and Historical Characters (神明古人聖號職銜)

Rating:★★★
Category:Other

In order for our other fellow members (non-Chinese) to have a better understanding on the "beauty" of our Chinese titles/names/etc, I've come out with this listing, hope that it does somehow helps in the future referencing

I will break-up the list into different categories, so as to make it easier to reference/etc:

Royal Related:

Emperor, chn: Huang (皇)/Di (帝)/Jun (君), hkk: Hong/Teh/Ghun(Ghoon)

This ranking, can consider as the highest among all. In History, he(she) is the leader of the country/empire, one order from him(her) can be destructive.

In Deities System, who uses this title?

Let's check it out:

1 Jade Emperor of Heaven (玉皇大天尊), chn: Yu Huang Da Di (玉皇大帝)/Yu Huang Shang Di (玉皇上帝), hkk: Tee Kong (天公)/Giok Hong (玉皇)

2 chn: Xuan Tian Shang Di (玄天上帝), hkk: Shiong Teh Kong (上帝公)/Shiong Teh Yah (上帝爺)

3 chn: Wen Chang Di Jun (文昌帝君), hkk: Boon Chiong Teh Ghun(Ghoon)

Duke, chn: Wang Ye (王爺)/Qian Sui (千歲), hkk: Ong Yah(Yeh)/Qian Sui

Usually the title Duke is bestowed or being appointed by the Emperor in the past and of cos, Emperor is the only one in the Imperial System who has the authorities or powers to given such titles.

So what are the duties for such a rank?

Usually nothing important, such Dukes will only come in "good use" or become "important" when he(or a group) being appointed to go to the common-areas to make inspections (chn: Dai Tian Xun Shou (代天巡狩), hkk: Shun Shiew).

So who are the Deities in the system that have such titles?

Here's the list:

1 The Nine Emperors, chn: Jiu Huang Da Di (九皇大帝 expectional case)/ Jiu Wang Ye (九王爺), hkk: Kiew Hong Yah/Kiew Ong Yah

2 Various Deities/Historical Characters that had been bestowed in their Era, eg: Yue Fei (岳飛) - hkk: Gah Hwee (Song Dynasty), Guo Zi Yi (郭子儀) - hkk: Kwek Zu Yee (Tang Dynasty), Guan Yu (關羽) - hkk: Guan Gong (關公 Three Kingdom), etc

In Chinese, we never used chn: Jiu Qian Sui (九千歲), hkk: Kiew Qian Sui, to address a Deity.

Reason, such a title was used by the evil Eunuch in Ming Dynasty, in-order not to "downgrade" the reputation, Chinese will tend to replace Qian Sui with Wang Ye when addressing a Deity that is at the Ninth place in the Duke group.

Empress, chn: Hou (后), hkk: Hor/Hio

This is the title for the initial wife of the Emperor. In the Imperial System, she's the one who was put in-charge of all the concubines, maids, princesses, etc (all female staffs of the Imperial Family will so-called "registered" under her "department").

Any duties for her? Definitely Yes. She had to assist the Emperor, so-called her husband, to look after the order in the whole "family". Her main duty would be, to give birth to a crown prince to take over the throne from her husband to continue the lineage of the Empire.

A good Empress would always "enlighten" the Emperor of not to get work-out over certain issues whereas a not-so-good Empress would always be there to do certain planning against all concubines who wanted to "snatch" the position of Empress away from her.

Famous Empresses in Ancient Chinese History:

Good Empress: Wife of Emperor Tang Tai Zong (唐太宗之妻), named Chang Sun Wu Gou (長孫無垢)

Not-so-good Empress: Wife of Han Wu Emperor (漢武帝之妻), named Chen A Jiao (陳阿嬌)

So in the Deities System, who fits the title?

Here she is:

Mother Queen of the Western Paradise, chn: Xi Wang Mu (西王母)/Wang Mu Niang Niang (王母娘娘)/Yao Chi Jin Mu (瑤池金母), hkk: Ong Boo Niew Niew/Ong Mu

In Folks Culture, she was believed to be the wife of Jade Emperor of Heaven and was given the duty of looking after all Female Immortals/Enlightened female priests/etc.

In early folks' belief, Wang Mu was mistaken as the Mother of Jade Emperor of Heaven, but after certain mix-and-match, Folks "decided" to take her in as the "Wife" of Jade Emperor of Heaven. This conclusion is widely accepted by the Folks now.

Concubine, chn: Fei (fei妃), hkk: Hwee/Ong Hwee (王妃)

This is the title given to the other wives beside the first wife, so-called the concubine.

Usually the second wife of the Emperor would be bestowed with the title Xi Gong (西宮), translated as Western Chamber of the Imperial Court. In certain dynasties, Xi Gong does have the authorities to make some decisions.

As in Folks Culture, Mother Queen is believed to be the ONLY wife that Jade Emperor of Heaven "married" to and so, such title is given to other important Female Deities like:

1 Lord Empress of the Sea (海上聖母/天上聖妃), chn: Ma Zu (媽祖), hkk: Ma Chor

Motherly role, chn: Niang Niang (娘娘), hkk: Niew Niew

This is a title that is being widely used all over different eras.

This is a respectful title to be given to Female Deities or ranked Female character.

In Deities System, almost all Female Deities are given the title Niew Niew, here's the prove:

1 Maiden of the Ninth Heaven, chn: Jiu Tian Niang Niang (九天娘娘)/Jiu Tian Xuan Nv (九天玄女), hkk: Kiew Thian Niew Niew/Kiew Thian Hian Ru

2 Lord Madam of the Birth, chn: Zhu Sheng Niang Niang (註生娘娘), hkk: Zu Si Niew Niew

3 Lord Mother of the Earth, chn: Di Mu Niang Niang (地母娘娘), hkk: They Boo Niew Niew

Military Related (武職):

Marshal, chn: Yuan Shuai (元帥), hkk: Guan Shui/Wan Shui

This is the title that is being given to a General (well-equipped with the knowledge and skills for fighting wars and able to lead troops of armies).

Usually such a title will only be given out upon the Emperor sending off the troops to fight for a war.

In the past, such a role will be presented with a Golden Seal, an Imperial Sword and a Command Flag, before the appointed General set off for the fighting.

Use of Golden Seal (金印) - needed to endorsed on letters that sent back to the Imperial Court

Use of Imperial Sword (監軍劍) - able to kill any rebellious soldiers at the border without seeking permission from the Emperor

Use of Command Flag (軍令旗) - to gather the troops of Armies and also a sign of recognition by the Imperial Court that this is the right guy that the Emperor appointed to be the leader of the millions soldiers

After getting all these stuffs, the "Lunar Custom Officer" will choose an auspicious date for the Marshal to put on the Marshal robe, meet the troops and lead the group to worship the main Flag for the troops (usually this flag will be in black or red color, the Marshal will need to slaughter a living stock in-front of the flag and uses the fresh blood to endorse on the flag before it can be used).

So in the Deities System, who are the appointed Heavenly Marshals?

Here's the list:

1 Wang Ling Guan (王靈官), hkk: Ong Thian Khoon.

2 Wen Qiong (溫瓊), hkk: Woon Khiong

General, chn: Jiang Jun (將軍)/Jiang Jun Ye (將軍爺), hkk: Jiong Khun/Jiong Khun Yah

This is the title that given to soldiers who have made certain credits during the war or for completing of certain tasks.

Sometimes, the title General can also be given to characters that are known as Marshal, Yuan Shuai in Chinese.

Here, General is considered as the assistant or right-hand man of the Marshal during the war.

Some soldiers could be bestowed with this title even-though they didn't make any credits by going war. Emperor would use such a title to reward those who show loyalty to him or after completing certain tasks (some are given the title before they go-out to complete certain tasks).

Some Generals will also be given an Imperial Sword, only if they are appointed to do inspection out of the Capital. Each General will be given a seal, size much smaller than those hold by Marshals.

When a soldier is given the title General, he(she) will also be allocated with certain number of soldiers to follow him.

So who are the appointed Generals in the Deities System?

Let's have a check:

1 The 36 Heavenly General (36 Thian Khun 三十六天將) who assist Shiong Teh Kong (上帝公), Bao Sheng Da Di (保生大帝) and Dong Yue Da Di (東嶽大帝) to guard against any unnecessary issues happened in the Heavenly Court

2 The 3 Heavenly Generals of the Heavenly Gate (Tian Men San Jiang Jun (天門三將軍), hkk: Thian Men Sam Jiong Khun), guard against all entrance and exit from the Heavenly Gate

Vanguard, chn: Xian Feng (先鋒)/Xian Feng Guan (先鋒官), hkk: Xian Hong/Xian Hong Guan

This role is appointed by Marshal or General when a troop is out for fighting for war or certain mass-events.

The duty for such a role is to check on the situation around the area that the troops will pass-by or the areas that the troops going to set their tents or territory.

He(she) also needed to make reports at all time to keep the Marshal or General updated on the situations around the areas.

So how does a Xian Feng look like?

Usually a Xian Feng will be equipped with a Flag (can be red or white), when the other soldiers notice that a Xian Feng will be passing-by through the way, all soldiers will give way to him(her), as the others know that he(she) has certain reports to be made to the Marshals or Generals. Those who obstruct the event of a Xian Feng, he(she) can be beheaded.

In the Deities System, only one well-known Deity is given the title Xian Feng, which is Hei Ling Jiang Jun (黑令將軍), hkk: Orh Leng Jiong Khun.

During big celebrations/events or ceremonies that needed "Assistance" from the Spiritual Armies, a flag, that represent the Xian Feng, named Hei Ling Qi (黑令旗), hkk: Orh Leng Ki, will be used and place in-front of all major altars or ceremony sites.

Reporting Officer, chn: Zhong Jun (中軍)/Zhong Jun Ye (中軍爺), hkk: Tiong Khun/Tiong Khun Yah

This role is usually appointed by Dukes or Lords (王爺/千歲).

The duties of such a role are to assist the Dukes or Lords to gather reports or to entertain guests when big events taking place at the Mansion of the Duke/Lord or during Morning Meeting with Emperor or other high-rank officers.

To be more accurate, such a role is just a doorman for high-rank officers.

A Military related high-rank officer will engaged a skilled/martial-trained Zhong Jun whereas an Administrative related high-rank officer will engage a well-educated Zhong Jun for his services.

In Deities System, such a role can consider as the lowest rank of all. Such a role can only be found in temples or altars that are dedicated to Dukes or Lords or high-ranking Deities with titles related to Military.

Administrative Related (文職):

Premier, chn: Chen Xiang (臣相)/Xiang Ye (相爺), hkk: Shin Siong/Siong Yah

This is a title that is given by the Emperor.

In the Imperial System, such a rank can consider as the Highest. With such a title, the Premier can make decision on behalf for the Emperor (can be war-fighting or revolution actions, etc).

A good Premier will assist the Emperor till he's not able to provide any more services whereas a not-so-good Premier will grab opportunities to overthrown the Emperor and gained the throne for himself.

In Ancient Chinese History, some well-known Premiers are:

1 Liu Bo Wen (劉伯溫), hkk: Lau Piek Woon - Ming Dynasty, assist Emperor Zhu Yuan Zhang (朱元璋) to get his Empire, after he's tasks completed, he went into deserted forest to get self-cultivate for Taoism

2 Wei Zheng (魏徵), hkk: Wee Zeng - Tang Dynasty, assist Emperor Tang Tai Zong (唐太宗) to gain his power and presented various comments and suggestions on how to make his Empire more wealthy and stronger

3 Cao Cao (曹操), hkk: Cho Cho - Three Kingdom (三國), hold almost all the authorities in the Imperial Court, consider as a Rebel Hero in that era

So, in the Deities System, who are the Heavenly Premiers?

Here they are:

1 Xu Xun (許遜), hkk: Koh Shun, well-known as Gan Tian Da Di (感天大帝), hkk: Gam Thian Dai Teh, born in Eastern Jin Dynasty (東晉)

2 Zhang Ling (張陵) aka Zhang Dao Ling (張道陵), hkk: Theo Leng/Theo Dho Leng, Master of Taoism, being given the title of Heavenly Master (道教天師)

3 Ge Hong (葛洪), hkk: Kha Hong/Khay Hong

According to myths and records, these Heavenly Premiers are to assist the Jade Emperor of Heaven on Administrative issues like skills, educating, passing-down of comments/etc.

Excellency/Lord (大人), chn: Da Ren, hkk: Dai Lin

This is a title that is appointed by the Emperor or promoted from lower rank officer to a higher rank.

In the past, a person can only gained such a "job" by passing the Imperial Examination/etc, being a small rank officer at an area/state and then slowly get promoted.

In the Imperial System, Excellency's ranking can be divided into 9 stages.

Starting from the lowest of 9th Grade (九品) to the highest of 1st Grade (一品).

As a person gets promoted, the robe, the seal and the tasks for his position will also changed.

For a normal officer, his duties are to solve un-solved cases, passing judgment to guilty subject, making requests to Imperial Court on behalf of commoners/folks, etc.

In Ancient Chinese History, there are quite a few well-known Excellences:

1 Bao Zheng (包拯), hkk: Bao Jing, well-known as Bao Gong - born in Song Dynasty (宋朝). In later part of his life, he was promoted to a Duke

2 Hai Rui (海瑞), hkk: Hai Swee - born in Ming Dynasty (明朝)

3 Lin Ze Xu (林則徐), hkk: Lim Zhe Ci - born in Qing Dynasty (清朝), set rules to stop opium from entering into China

For the Deities System, folks have imported the Historical Characters in from the Ancient Chinese History of various Dynasties.

Reasons for such importing:

1 Almost all Chinese are involved in Ancestor Worshipping. With such a traditional, Chinese will tend to pay attention on Hero of various Dynasties or historical characters that have good reputation or so

2 Allowing all descendants to know who are the famous Characters in various dynasties, what they have done to help the commoners/folks/etc

3 To keep in Memorial and sincerely respect them just like one's ancestors

*(Exception) Madam, chn: Fu Ren (夫人), hkk: Hoo Lin/Hoo Jin

This is a title for ladies who are being bestowed by Emperor or married to a husband who is bestowed or appointed a certain ranking by the Emperor.

In the Folks culture (Chinese Etiquette), as a form of respect, we also address Ladies who are more elderly or higher level than us as Fu Ren.

For those who are bestowed by the Emperor, they will used the theme Gao Ming Fu Ren (誥命夫人), hkk: Khor Beng Hoo Lin (Jin).

Administrators, chn: Shi Ye (師爺), hkk: Su Yah

This is the title for officers who are appointed to do recording for future references, such as Cases, Funds, Man-power, Birth & Death, Illnesses, etc.

Usually in the Imperial System, there will be a leading officer who's put in-charge of all such minor departments (each department will be put in-charge for one subject).

So in the Deities System, is there any Administrator Officers being appointed?

Yes, there are, the most well-known will be the 24 Departments for Recording which service in the Nether World (冥府二十四司).

Commoners Related:

Mister, chn: Ye (爺)/Gong (公), hkk: Yah/Kong

This is a common and polite addressing to someone we respect or so.

In the past, when you address someone that is of elderly or more higher level than you, you will need to add a Ye or Gong at the back of his surname or name.

So who are the Deities in the Deities System that we add such an addressing?

They are:

1 Earth Deity, chn: Tu Di Gong (土地公), hkk: Toh Tey Kong - in-charge of the land where mortals live on

2 City Deity, chn: Cheng Huang Ye (城隍爺)/Cheng Huang Gong (城隍公), hkk: Sheng Hong Yah/Sheng Hong Kong - in-charge of the daily blessing on the folks living in the City

3 Kitchen Deity, chn: Zhao Jun Ye (灶君爺)/Zhao Jun Gong (灶君公), hkk: Zhao Ghun Yah/Zhao Ghun Kong - in-charge of the fire of one household, record all credits/merits that the family members have

Maiden, chn: Gu Niang (姑娘), hkk: Khor Niew

This is an address that we, Chinese, give to young ladies (approx age from after puberty to before marriage), to be more exact, ladies whom are eligible for such an address shall be a virgin (maybe a bit crude).

In Deities System, this address is given to young female Deities or Historical Characters.

In Singapore, the most well-known Deity that folks pay respect too will be Maiden Lin of Redhill (紅山林姑娘), hkk: Ang Shua Lim Khor Niew.

Nanny/Grandaunt, chn: Gu Po (姑婆)/Nai Niang (奶娘), hkk: Khor Phor/Nee Niew/Nee Bhoo

Gu Po is an address that we give to older ladies whom we respect whereas Nai Niang is an address given to nannies who are engaged to look after new born babies.

In Deities System, the assistants of Lord Madam of Birth (註生娘娘) are address as Khor Phor or Nee Niew, this is the form of respect that devotees give to them, hoping that after they pay respect to the nannies, the nannies will give blessing to the infants just like their own babies/grandchildren/etc.

As for the reason of why Long Shan Men decided to sponsor the 3 Statues, maybe you all can proceed to Vabien's Taoist Web in the next few days for the write-up (http://juin987.multiply.com).

On the Day, Long Shan Men arrived at the Temple at about 8.30Am to do the preparation and setting up, with enough Man-power, the setting up was done within 15 minutes and the Dotting Ceremony started on time at about 9.00Am.

First, with the Opening of the Heaven (Calling Upon the Spiritual Reporter 開天), I sent an "Spiritual Signal" to the Heaven by using the Five Thunder Command Block (五雷號令).

Follow-by, doing Cleansing for the New Statues using Flower & Enhanced Water (淨像) (Pics 02-06).

Once the Cleansing was done, it was the time to Enhance the Talismans that needed for the Dotting. This Time round, the Incense-paper (being folded into Spiritual Arrow) were being replaced with the Talismans (敕符) (Pics 07-08).

Immediately after the Enhancing of the Talismans, the Dotting Ceremony Official Started by going round the Temple to pay respect aka Offering Incenses (上香) (Pics 09-10) to the Deities & San Qing Dao Zu aka The Three Pure Ones (三清道祖).

Once the Offering Incenses was done, Cleansing of the Environment (淨壇) took place before the Invitation of the Deities (請聖) (Pics 11-12).

With the Arrival of the Deities, the Spiritual Petition had to be recited (宣疏) in-order to do the Reporting to the Heaven & other Deities on what was the Event going on and also, to Invite the Deities' Energies to be emitted in-order for the Dotting to take place.

After the recitation of the Petition, 3 rounds of Wine were being Offered (三敬) as a form of Gratitude for the Deities to arrive.

Before the Dotting took place, Enhancing of the Spiritual Objects (敕物) were needed. Such Objects were:

1) The Red Cannibar Ink (硃砂)
2) The Brush (毛筆)
3) The Mirror (明鏡) (Pics 13)

Done with the Enhancing of the Spiritual Objects, the Dotting of the Statues took place (點靈(開光)). (2 Extra Statues to be dotted for Long Shan Men's Disciple's Home, they are Tai Yi Tian Zun 太乙天尊 & Jiang Xian Guan 江仙官) (Pics 14-31).

Once the Dotting was done, the Enhanced Talismans were to be Burnt infront of the Statues to Consolidate the Positive Energies into the Statues (香迎) (Pics 16/21/25). And once that was done, the Statues were needed to go Round the Temple to pay respect to the Other Deities in the Temple, in Taoism, this is known as Guo Dian (過殿) (Pics 22/26/29).

When ALL the Statues were being Dotted, another Round of Recitation of Spiritual Petition was being done (宣疏) (Pics 35). This is to Report that the Dotting Ceremony had Completed with the Assistance of the Blessing given by the Deities.

Once the reporting was done, Chanting of Taoist Scripture took place (誦經). With the completion of the Chanting, Raising of the Seats (安神) for the Deities in the Temple was needed. (For the moment, the 3 Newly Dotted Statues were being placed at the Rear Hall of the Temple for Devoteed to pay respect).

Soon after the Raising of Seats was done, thanking of the Earth Deity took place (辭土(謝土)) and Paper-offerings were being burnt (化寶).

At last, the Whole Ceremony ended and as usual, the whole Ceremony lasted for 2 Hours.

Immediately after the Dotting Ceremony, we were being invited to enjoy the Wonderful Vegetarian Cuisine prepared by the Aunties of the Temple. All of the Dishes were delicious and just before we left the Temple, a pack of about 8 Rice-dumplings were given to us. According to the Aunty, these Dumplings were being prepared by them (Pics 36).

Honouring Cheng Huang at Du Cheng Huang Temple (都城隍廟祭明靈王)

Today, the 10th Day of Lunar 5 Month, me and one of the Long Shan Men's Disciples visited Du Cheng Huang Temple (都城隍廟) located at Tanjong Pagar to pay our respect to Du Cheng Huang aka Ming Ling Wang (都城隍明靈王).

Upon arrival, the Altar was already full with Fruits & Paper Offerings. After a quick preparation & laying out of our Offerings, we started to pay our respect to Du Cheng Huang Ming Ling Wang.

Due to the Temple was a bit small and crowded, we had to make our leave straight after the Honouring.

Outside the Temple, Hokkien Opera was going on with only An audience. This shows that, our Chinese Culture really need some Boosting.

On 11th Day of Lunar 5 Month (03 Jun 2009), it will be the Actual Manifestation Anniversary of Du Cheng Huang, for those who are interested, remember to drop by to pay your respect.

The Celebration will last till Friday (but actual will last their Sunday).
