Introduction on Master Jin Ying (金英祖師簡介)

Upon request from many of the Friends & Members here, I will do a quick introduction on Master Jin Ying. Due to alot misconception and misleading info being given to Master Jin Ying, this is indeed a sad issue. In-order to return a Clear Reputation to Master Jin Ying, in here, I will share with all of you the Actual History of Master Jin Ying.

Master Jin Ying aka Jin Ying Zu Shi (金英祖師), actual name known as Lin Jin Ying (林金英), born in Ming Dynasty (生於明朝), 24th Day of Lunar 11 Month (農曆十一月廿四日). Hometown in China Jiang Su Province, Xu Zhou City Dong Shan County (祖籍於江苏省徐州市铜山县).

According to records, on the Day of Jin Ying's Birth, the neighbours saw a Big & Bright-color Eagle flying around in the mid-air above Jin Ying's home. After awhile, Jin Ying was born and at the moment of his born, the House was filled with a Nice Fragrance of Sandal-wood. With the sighting of an Eagle and the smelling of Fragrance, Jin Ying's Parent knew that this Baby was not "Normal" and so, Jin Ying's Father gave the Baby the name of "Jin Ying" - meaning the Golden Eagle (even though the Ying is not the Character for Eagle 鷹).

3 Days after the Birth of Jin Ying, a Taoist Priest arrived at the House of Jin Ying. Due to Mrs Lin was doing her confinement, so that Mr Lin had to attend to the arrival of the Priest. After entering in the House, Jin Ying started to cry out loud. Upon hearing the crying, the Priest knodded his head and request Mr Lin whether he could take a look at the Baby.

Mr Lin was more than happy to bring the Baby out and after a look at Jin Ying, the Priest recited a Poem. Upon the completion of the recitation, Jin Ying stopped crying and stare at the Priest and out of sudden, Jin Ying called out 2 words - Shi Fu (師父), meaning Master.

Mr Lin was shocked and with immediate action, he kneeled down infront of the Priest and asked why Jin Ying was able to speak, which he was only born 3 Days again.

Upon hearing that, the Priest sincerely asked Mr Lin to stand-up and told him, Jin Ying was actually an Immortal who vowed to return back to the Mortal Realm to perform his Cultivation Tasks. After checking on the Credits & Merits of the Lin Family, Jin Ying decided to get his Manifestation in the Lin Family.

Hearing that, Mr Lin was delighted and faithfully requested the Priest to accept Jin Ying as the Disciple in-order to assist him in accomplished the Cultivation Task. The Priest smiled and accepted the request. From then, the Priest stayed in the House to impart the Taoist Skills to Jin Ying.

At the age of 3 Years Old, Jin Ying was able to chant & recite most of the Taoist Scriptures & Mantras.

By the age of 5, with the Recommendation of the Priest, Jin Ying went to Hokkien Province Nan An City (南安市) to seek other Spiritual Skills from another Taoist Priest. Upon reaching, Jin Ying's Master made a depart with him and advised him that, soon they were meet again in another Special Venue. Knowing that his Master was going to leave him, Jin Ying felt very upset and started to cry infront of the Priest. Just before the Tears roll down, his Master told him, as a Taoist, you shall only Cried for the Sufferings, Cried for the Needy, not to cry for such Issues. As a Taoist, Compassionate shall be dedicated to the Big Group and not to Ownself.

After getting the Lecturing, Jin Ying reluntantly made 3 Kowtows to the Priest and with a gust of Fume, the Priest ascended into the Air and just as Jin Ying was about to call out to his Master, the Priest asked Jin Ying to remember his Taoist Title - Bi Xu Shang Jing Tai Yi Zhen Ren (碧虛上景太乙真人).

Immediately after Jin Ying departed with his Master, the other Priest came forward to lead Jin Ying to the Cultivation Venue. Soon, Jin Ying started his other Cultivation in Nan An City.

At the age of 7, the Nan An Priest told Jin Ying that he had completed whatever he needed to learn and its time for him to return back to him hometown. Upon hearing that, Jin Ying was happy and again upset due to the departure. Before Jin Ying set-off for his journey, the Nan An Priest passed Jin Ying a Waist-bag with 12 Talismans (十二道符) and advised him to use the 1st Piece after he returned back. Jin Ying was about to ask why, but with a gust of Fume, the Nan An Priest disappeared infront of him. With no choices, Jin Ying had to leave the place with Doubts.

Within a Month, Jin Ying reached his hometown in Jiang Su Province, but to his horror, the Village that he stay-in was seriously infected with Strange-sickness. With no hesitation, Jin Ying took out the Talisman that his 2nd Master gave him and burnt it.

Soon after the Burning of the Talisman, the Cloud above him turned Dark and within moments, Thunder Road and Rain started to pour. As the Rain was pouring, a strong Fragrance of Herbs was being emitted from the Rain and the Fragrance started to flow around the whole Village.

About 15 Minutes (一刻鐘), the Rain stopped and just at the same moment, All the Villagers were cured and able to walk out from their Home to the Street. Knowing that the Villagers were cured by the Talisman, Jin Ying kneel-down and made his Kowtows to the Heaven and sincerely Thanks his 2 Masters.

At the age of 8, in the Morning of 5th Day of Lunar 3 Month (得道日為農曆三月初五日), a Golden Brightness was shined onto the Roof-top of Jin Ying's House. After a while, the Villagers saw Jin Ying slowly ascended into the Air thru the Golden Brightness. Just as the moment when Jin Ying's Parent ran out from the House, Jin Ying made a smile and waved to his Parent and the other Villagers, telling them that he had to return to the Celestial Palace (天庭) to meet up with his Masters.

Due to Jin Ying ever saved the Villagers's Life, they were happy and upset for Jin Ying to leave them at such a Young Age. Within moments, Jin Ying disappeared in the Air and only left a Red-light Spot above the Village.

From then, the Villagers built Temple dedicated to Jin Ying. Till today, in Jiang Su Province & Nan An City, you are still able to see Temples dedicated to Master Jin Ying.

Because of the age when Master Jin Ying got his Enlightenment, most of the Statues that the Taoists or Chinese dedicated to him are in Young-boy form. And due to the appearance, alot of Folks tend to mistaken him as Na Zha (哪吒), the Son of Pagoda King Li Jing (托塔天王李靖).

In Taoist Lv Shan Sect (道教閭山派), Master Jin Ying is also known as Xue Shang Sheng Zhe (雪山聖者).

In Qing Dynasty (清朝年间), a Hakka Clan Priest (广东博罗县罗浮山客籍道士) known as Lin Xian Jiang (林显江) used the Name of Master Jin Ying to set up Jin Ying Sect (金英教). From then, Jin Ying Sect was being pass-down till today. Due to Priest Lin Xian Jiang was a Priest who mastered Talisman Skills from the various Taoist & Spiritual Groups, after he founded Jin Ying Sect, he merged most of the Talisman Skills into One, which was known as Jin Ying Spiritual Skill.

Appearance of Young Master Jin Ying:

1) Young Age Boy of about 5-8 Years Old
2) Both Hands holding on to 2 Round Golden Balls (雙金球) or Sun & Moon Plate (日月盤) - represent the Spiritual Energies from Yin & Yang
3) Wearing Du Dou (肚兜) or Prince-Robe (太子袍)
4) On the waist, a Bag filled with Talismans.
5) 1 Leg stepping on Cloud/Stone or Sitting on Lotus

Misconceptions & Misleading Information to Clarify:

1) Due to Records of Master Jin Ying is closely connected with the Golden Eagle, Folks tend to mistaken Master Jin Ying is the Disciple of Buddha. Cos in some Records, Buddha does owe a Eagle above his Seat. And in Folks Culture, Tang San Zang (唐三藏) was known as the Re-incarnation of the Golden Cicada (金蟬), the Folks tend to pair these Master Jin Ying & Tang San Zang together, telling People that they are Dharma-mates under Buddha.

2) In Ming Dynasty, the Chaotic Period of Mixing Religions and Fighting for gaining the Fame of Religious Leaders, the Folks Groups tend to import Deities & Immortals into their Religions in-order to gain more Followers' Support. Master Jin Ying was one of them.

After Importing Master Jin Ying into the Group, the Folks Groups claimed that they are the Branch-out of Quan Zhen Sect (三教全真道) - a Sect that Promotes the Combination of Three Religions' Teaching. From then, most of the Folks Groups used the Reputation of Three Religions to do Promotion of their Culture.

3) In Late Ming Dynasty (明朝末年), after the Three Religions' Groups started to get more Popular, some Spiritual Teachers started to import the Ancient Liu Ren Sect (古六壬派) into the New Created Liu Ren Sect (新六壬派 which most of the Liu Ren Sect Groups that we can found in Today are from that Period).

And in-order to gain the Supports from the Followers of Master Jin Ying, Master Jin Ying was being imported and was made as the Main Spiritual Deity of the Modern Liu Ren Sect.

Note:
Ancient Liu Ren Sect does not involved in Mediumship, Summoning of Spirits, Catching of Ghosts, Playing of Sharp-objects, Issuing of Wealth-Talismans or Combining of another forms of Teaching from any other Religions.

Ancient Liu Ren Sect was being pass-down by Old Master Li Bo (李播) aka Taoist Priest Huang Guan Zi (黃冠子) to his son Li Chun Feng (李淳風) & Disciple Yuan Tian Gang (袁天罡).

Only those who still followed the Teaching of Li Chun Feng & Yuan Tian Gang are known as the Official Taoist Liu Ren Students, other then that, the Modern Liu Ren Students' Spiritual Master will be Master Jin Ying or Master Li Chun Feng.

  1. bro u mention abt 雪山聖者 is there another 聖者,name 上山聖者.or anything close to the pronunciation in hokkien? thank you

  2. Shang Shan is actually Xue Shan, refering to the same Deity.

In Lv Shan, there are 24 Sheng Zhe. Each of them are actually Taoist Deities but due to the importing into the Lv Shan System, their Titles had to change for certain reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Thanks to Bro Ronni for sharing with us the Statue of Master Jin Ying from Penang (Pic jinying_05.jpg).

    ReplyDelete
  4. What about the other 11 Talismans?

There seems to be an rise in the Honouring of Jin Ying Zu Shi. Any possible reasons for that?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Shifu,

So he is the one who I always ask you who is he, when we are in the statues shops is it? The young boy(look like Tai Zi) who is sitting on a lotus and hold one sun and moon is it?

Why do people honour him? Is it for spiritual skills?

    Thanks... =)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Shifu, Buddhists worship Maitreya (Mile Pusa), Taoists have Master Jin Ying. But those two are very different deities, right? System is different, even meaning of cloth sack is different.

So, in a temple with the Fat Laughing Mile image, how do we know if it's Mile Pusa or Master Jin Ying? Also, what happens if we get confused, and not know who is the deity in the statue?

    ReplyDelete
  7. how do we tell this is kim eng??

    ReplyDelete
  8. ask the temple keeper and you will get the answer if u dun wan to pray to the wrong deities =)

  10. The other 11 Talismans are to cease Diasters that happen around the Mortals - Earth, Fire, Water, Relationship, Back-stabber, Animal, Demons, Ghosts, Five Element, Weather & Legal Issue.

Plus Sickness, they ALL make up 12 Talismans.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yup, thats the one :P

Due to seldom people know who that Statue is dedicated to, alot of our Local Folks tend to buy that for Na Zha.

Yes, in Taoism, usually we honour him as one of the Sheng Zhe aka Spiritual Protector for Spiritual Skills or Talisman Skills.

  12. By the hair on the Head.

    The posture of the Hand,

And also a Bag at the side.. might not be able to see in this low-res pic.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yes, they are of Different Deities and in Taoism, we dont honour Mi Le.

In Buddhism, they do not have the Laughing Mi Le and in Taoism, we dont have that too.

So its quite easy to identify them.

For those Temples that honour Laughing Buddha and with other Chinese Deities, usually those Temples are known as the Three Religions Temple, so they wont have Master Jin Ying being honoured.

  14. Master Jin Ying's Bao Gao being added.

  15. O i c...ok thanks a lot... =D

  16. Only those who still followed the Teaching of Li Chun Feng & Yuan Tian Gang are known as the Official Taoist Liu Ren Students, other then that, the Modern Liu Ren Students' Spiritual Master will be Master Jin Ying or Master Li Chun Feng.

If pray to Grandmaster Li chun feng is consider Official or Modern?? Since both Official n Modern are praying to him??

    ReplyDelete
  17. Official shall honour Li Chun Feng & Yuan Tian Gang together. Cos for those who Practice the Liu Ren Skills will know that, the 2 of them impart different Skills and without any of the Skills, no one is able to succeed in knowing the Secret of the Liu Ren Spiritual Skill.

    ReplyDelete
  18. but by honouring them, anyone oso can do it. How to differeciate real or fake?? By honouring them one can noe the secret of liu ren??

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yup, this is the issue that alot of the Folks Facing. How to know Real or Fake?

By the Skills that the Folks practising.

Like what I have mentioned above. Ancient Liu Ren School doesnt practice or impart those Skills and Modern Schools do impart those.

The main Objective of Li Bo, the Father of Li Chun Feng, is to promote & impart the Culture of Spiritual Communication with the Heavenly Realm and getting connection with the Various Stars in the Heavenly Hemisphere. By doing so, to do the necessary prediction to save people from disasters and major harms.

But Modern Liu Ren had divert their attention to physical or so-called materialize training.

    ReplyDelete
  20. wat do u mean by materialize training?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Using too much physical objects to test on Physical Skills. This is actually a Taboo for Cultivation in Taoism.

    ReplyDelete
  22. ooo......den in Sing y all the tangkis oso do physical mutilation?? Are they oso making a taboo??

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hahahaha.. this is a form of "Art" only, in the Ancient Era, only Taoist Priests are able to do that.

When a Village or Town is being infected by illnesses or diseases and after a long period, the curing take no effect, the Priests will report to Heaven and then cut a wound in the arms to release out the Blood and sprinkle around the Village or Town to get rid of the Evil Entities. And usually at the end, the Priest will pass-on due to the over-bleeding. This is a form of sacrisfying.

But went this Ancient Practice being imported into the New Modern Mediumship Culture today, it become Mediums doing that for No Purposes.

Alot of them dont even understand the objective of doing that....

    ReplyDelete
  24. Icic. So this is juz an "ART", den olden days priests are doing this to show believers onli la. No particular reason or effect la?? Den they are oso creating a taboo too?? Den now how to get pure n traditional priest?? Since from olden days aled making taboo... sob... very disheartening...

    ReplyDelete
  25. For the Modern Day is an Art.

For the Olden Days, such Practices are not able to be done unless the Country is being affected by Wars, Mortals being harm by Diseases.

And to be more accurate, No One will want to do this. Cos after doing this, usually a Life will be taken.

So not showing off but sacrisfying.

    ReplyDelete
  26. icic...but still is a taboo. Juz wonder where u got so many information?? ^^

    ReplyDelete
  27. Maybe u can say that is a Taboo ba.. cos in Taoism, by using Blood to cease certain issues is consider as a No No thing. Cos Taoism Natural and we have to use Natural Ways to cease and solve the issues and not force to solve the issues. By using forcing, the issues will be cycle-back again and at the end, more issues involved.

Me knowing so many info.. wahahaha, I think this one have to thanks my Ancestors for passing down the knowledge.

Since Tang Dynasty, my Ancestors had been promoting Taoism, till today, I'm the 35th Generation, with no choices, I have to take over.

So, I think maybe only my Ancestors can answer your enquries ba.

    ReplyDelete
  28. ooo....... Wat sect u r in?? Wats ur ansectors do??

    ReplyDelete
  29. Zheng Yi Sect, under Heavenly Master Zhang Dao Ling.

Long Shan Men is founded by my Ancestor Long Yi Zhen Jun in Tang Dynasty.

My Ancestors, they are Taoist Priests, doing teaching and imparting of Taoist Skills.

    ReplyDelete
  30. So wat they imparting?? Wats ur ranking??

    ReplyDelete
  31. Alot of Skills, uncountable.

Mine ranking, nothing high, just a Priest to lead the next Generation.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Zheng yi tianshi fu most popular is wu dou mi. The rest are mainly on chanting. Any other special i not noe?? Maybe u can guide me. Haha... priest leading next generation ur ranking must be very high. Can share ur ranking bro?? ^^

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wu Dou Mi is the Ancient Name for Tian Shi Dao. Now we dont use Wu Dou Mi Jiao. Taoist Sect does not only involved in Chanting, this is the wrong impression that people had.

Taoist Sect had more activities such as learning various Skills, History, understanding of different Deities, what are the Tasks of each Deity and so and so... alot.. cant mention here....

My ranking... hahahaha.. those who know me will know la... maybe you can go thru my postings in the picture section, you will get my Title after my last promotion in March 2009. :P

    ReplyDelete
  34. ...u got so many pic... find till tml arh...lolx... Taoist sect is indeed vast. But Tianshi fu very limited. Alot of them mix aled. If not Tianshi fu do not have other skill. Anyway each got their own strong point. taoist sect divide into many sector. Ur sect is more on which sector?? "Fu", "Zou", "Dan" .....etc

    ReplyDelete
  35. Zheng Yi Tian Shi Sect is under Fu & Zou.

Wu Dang & Quan Zhen are under Dan.

    For Long Shan Men, we train on Fu (符), Zou/Zhou (奏/咒), Du (度), Jiu/Zhu (救/助) & Xiu (修).

Till today, I can said that we are the only School of the few that still engage into that many Skills.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Den Lv shan leh?? Currently they oso have alot of skill woh.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Lv Shan is now under Zheng Yi Sect, even thou Lv Shan is known as Jing Ming Dao (淨明道).

Today, under Zheng Yi Sect, there are 70+++ other smaller Sects, such as Lv Shan, Mao Shan, etc etc....

    ReplyDelete
  38. How come now is under Zheng yi?? Last time all not under Zheng yi??

    ReplyDelete
  39. All Taoist Sect under San Shan (三山) are connected with Zheng Yi Sect. All these can be found in Ancient Records.

Did you go thru that before?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Quite abit diff fr urs... The emperor onli "feng" Tianshi as head of taoism, becoz lat time in china there are alot of taoist. The emperor tink that someone must control n unite them. So happen that longhu shan tianshi fu is being select. So onli Tianshi fu is consider Zheng Yi Pai. Can say that all come under Zheng yi, but each have their strong point. At tis point, many taoist join Zheng yi pai for their recognition n open their own. Thats y alot of sect appear. Early point most common is Long hu Zheng Yi, Lv Shan Jing ming, Cang Quan ling bao, San Mao Shang Jun, San dong pai, and many......... den alot appear at later times. Tats y in Taoism got Wan Fa Zong Tan. All are under Zheng Yi Tianshi Fu. The rest are not consider Zheng yi. At most under Longhu shan.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yup, that are out dated info..

Now, most of the Sects are under Zheng Yi Sect, which getting the endorsement cert on Wan Fa Zong Tan. Other than Cert from Wan Fa Zong Tan, the rest are not directly related to Taoism. We can only consider them as Three Religion Schools.

During one Period, Wu Dang & Mao Shan was fighting to be part of the San Shan, but now, due to some issues, Wu Dang break off to be individual, so Wu Dang is able to issue their Own Cert.

Whereas Mao Shan (not the one we see in Spore) still come under Wan Fa Zong Tan.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Something to add.

Before Emperor Bestowed Zhang Family to be Tian Shi. Tian Shi is already there. Without Tian Shi, there wont be any Taoism today, so this point, as a Taoist or Chinese, we must put it in mind.

    ReplyDelete
  43. To me is 1/2 true. Dun mind sharing. Lao Zi created Dao De Jing, Can say that Lao zi start 1st. Zhang DaoLing created Sect. So can say that Laozi create,TianShi spread. Without Tianshi maybe other taoist spread. But without Laozi, who going to create?? ^^ Maybe other ppl ba. Lolx...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hahahaha, urs is 1/4 correct.

Dao De Jing is not created by Lao Zi and Lao Zi is not the one who started the Scholarly Taoism. Taoism exist before Lao Zi period and without the Ancestor of Chinese, we do not have the Initial Form of Taoism.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hmm......... Before laozi is from the Wuji start to form. That is during "Xian tian" deities. Laozi is the wan who spread is teaching. Most popular is Dao dejing. In Taoism there is "Xian tian" n "Hou tian". U r right, Laozi is not the wan who create Taoism. But he is the wan who create the image of Tao to ppl's heart. If not laozi, who noe what is Taoism. During "Bagua Zushi" Fuxi era, nobody noe abt Taoism, but taosim is aled present at that time. It is till laozi, den ppl start to noe what is Taosim. ^^

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hahahahaha.. i think you are being affected by the some Untrue Taoist Theory, so that you have regards Lao Zi as the main key person.

This is the most serious mistake that alot of Folks are making.

Due to Commercialize and Non-proper passing down of Teaching, many have mistaken the Physical Lao Zi.

Far before Lao Zi, there are already people doing preaching on Dao (lets use Dao in-order to prevent more further mistakes). Just before Lao Zi was born, the so-called initial form Dao De Jing was being written. And then later after Lao Zi decided to give-up everything and concentrate on studying the initial form Dao De Jing and doing observation on the surround change, the currect Dao De Jing was being collated and pass around.

But too bad, the current Dao De Jing that we can get from the Market is the edited one, the Real Dao De Jing was gone in the Ancient Era.

So now, all over the World, including translation version, you can at least find 3-5 different types of Dao De Jing.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well, i dun read Dao dejing. Waste of time. Nobody in this era have any moral left. ^^ Anway u r right abt scripture deing edit. It is very common. Wat we learn now, confirm not 100% same as last time. But how can u prove that ur theory abt ur 4th paragraph is true?? If my explaination is laymen theory, den urs is immortal theory?? Like u say Dao dejing aled got many edition, how can u prove that ur theory is true?? Well, we can share our stories, but not condemm bro. U may tink u r right, others may think they r right. But in the end, who is right?? Nobody knows. It happen thousands of years ago. I may not be 100% right, but this is wat i learn. it is also human spread to human. Maybe u can post any concrete evidence on tat subject??

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hahaha, I think you are distorting the Culture of Taoism le.. maybe you have some doubts that you cant understand, but do not worry, cos sooner or later, you will be able to understand.

Just needed to go thru most of the Taoist Scriptures, you will find your answer.

    All the Best.
