5th Day of Lunar 1st Month – Ge Kai Day (大年初五隔開日)

In Chinese Culture, Ge Kai Day (隔開日) is known as the Day to Retrieve or Remove the Lunar New Year Offerings from the Deities Altar.

On this Day, after 4th Day of Lunar 1st Month ended at 0000 hours, the Retrieving and Cleaning can be done.

Ge Kai was usually done by, retrieving the Mouldy Items and Chun Fan (春飯), leaving only two main groups of Offerings – The 12 Vegetarian Items (十二齋碗) & The Traditional Biscuits (天公餅) for Honouring Jade Emperor of Heaven (玉皇大天尊) – See Pics 02 - 03.

Besides that, the Flowers must also be re-arranged by getting rid of those flowers that were withered – See Pic 04.

After the Clearing and Cleaning, a round of Incenses must be Offered, with that, Ge Kai is considered successfully completed.
