Introduction on the Using of Gui Ren Paper (百解貴人紙使用簡介)

A lot of the Taoists and Chinese might have used Gui Ren Zhi before, but from survey, not much people really know how to use these Papers correctly or properly.

Are they to blame? Of cos not, cos most of them are not taught to use the Paper correctly and secondly, people are confused by the Great amount of different types of Papers in the Market.

And so upon request, in here, I will do a quick and brief intro on the using of Gui Ren Paper.

Usually people always have the idea of – the more they burn such Gui Ren Paper, the more Blessings they will get from the Gui Ren or the Deities of Prosperities & Fortune.

If oneself will to have such thinking, then I must said that you are Greedily making Requesting and NOT Sincerely paying your Respect to the Heaven or Deities and so such people wont be able to get the necessary Spiritual assistances.

Gui Ren Paper, only burn One Set each time (for each individual) and after making the necessary Respect to the Heaven & Deities, oneself shall bring the Red-colored Gui Ren Paper (usually the 1st piece) to the Main Urn and make 3 rounds above the Incenses Fume to gather the Positive Energies and Blessing from the Deities and then, keep it in a Red-packet and bring it everywhere oneself goes. This is the Actual meaning of Jie Ying Gui Ren Fu (接引貴人符) aka Talisman of Ushering-in the Deities of Prosperities & Fortunes.

And then, fill in the necessary personal data onto the other Yellow Gui Ren Paper before burning off (some will do it at Home before visiting any Temples or 1st & 15th Day, different countries will have different number of pages, so do not worry about that).

Here it goes with the steps of the Filling in of the Data:

This is the “Jin Pai (金牌)” aka Golden Medal that being issued by the Heavenly Realm for one self to call upon the Blessing from the Various Departments, such as Eliminating of Sins & Debts, Calling for Fortune, etc.

Normally we don’t write anything on it.

The following are the 2 Spiritual Petitions (in Singapore Version) that needed to be filled up with the Personal Data.

For the 1st Piece,

On Circle Number 1, the Resident Address & Name of oneself must be fill-in.

Eg:
中華南方海外省。南洋新加坡共和國。
社恩信士。(自己名字)。

On Circle Number 2, the Date of the Day when oneself make the Offering,

Eg:
戊子年。X月。X日。赦行

For the 2nd Piece,

On Circle Number 1, the Resident Address & Name of oneself must be fill-in.

Eg:
信士。(自己名字)。自命。(自己的農曆生日)XX年。XX月。XX日。XX時。

On Circle Number 2, the Date of the Day when oneself make the Offering,

Eg:
戊子年。X月。X日。恩弟子叩

Once all the Data are being fill-up correctly, the Paper is ready for burning.

  1. Wah..wah.. So I don't use it correctly so far. I just burn the red Gui Ren paper together with incense paper without following steps you just mentioned, Shi Fu. I never see those yellow papers in Indonesia.
Actually how many pieces of Qui Ren paper are needed ? Regarding the incense paper, how many pieces are needed ? Do we have to ask spritual master to "fill-in" the Qui Ren paper ? talismans need to be filled-in before used, isn't it Shi Fu ?

  2. O i c...Thanks a lot for this entry...I understand how to fill the the gui ren zi already, realise been also using it wrongly...cause whenever I go to the temple and get the set of joss paper they always include one gui ren zi so I just burn altogether without filling up anything...haha...Thanks again... :P

  3. hi...bro..good explaination of burning t Gui Ren Paper... thank....

  4. Like what I mentioned in the article that different countries will have different number of pages. But the common one usually consist of the Red one and then, page 3 of what I posted here.

Not necessary to engage Priest or Master to do the filling-in, as long as oneself is able to do the filling-in in Chinese, everything will be fine.

Remember not to be greedy, just burn One Set at a time and if the whole thing is done correctly, the after-effect is something that we cannot explain using words...

  5. Welcome, so next time when you visit Temple, remember to bring a pen along. Once you see the Gui Ren Paper, just fill in the necessary info.

Again, once you are sincere, I'm sure the Deities will know and you will be blessed.

  6. Welcome, its my task and pleasure to share.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thanks for the explanation Shi Fu.

    ReplyDelete
  8. so, we keep the red paper... and the next time if we visit the temple again... Do We have to keep again? do we have to burn off the old one or keep all the red paper?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Usually we only do once/twice in a Month, whenever you all feel like changing, you all can do a change.

If not, you all can keep the 1st piece (usually during New Year period) for a year then burn it off at the end of the year before changing to the 1st new one.

    ReplyDelete
  10. okie... then how about the rest of the time when we burn the set of joss paper?

    ReplyDelete
  11. The rest you still need to fill in the necessary data.

For some ppl, they will burn off the Red one.

But for those who practice the old traditional way, they will still bring back the Red one and keep it. Not necessary to bring them around, but at least place them at the altar to receive the offering.

    ReplyDelete
  12. oh... then tt means they'll keep for one stack? or they'll burn the old one when they bring the new one home?

    ReplyDelete
  13. No for us, we will keep it for a year and then burn all together at the end of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  14. oh... means each time we go, we bring it home and keep... and then end of year bring out all and burn it all?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes, try to do this rather then burn them off.

Remember, before you bring them home, do make 3 turn on top of the Urn.

    ReplyDelete
  16. but its ok if we just burn the red one away? then wats the different bet this gui ren zhi yin fu and the other red gui ren paper which people call as da gui ren ( big gui ren)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Like what I have mentioned earlier, its ok for you to burn off the Red one, as long as you find it alright, you can do it.

But for better result and keeping the traditional way of what is being passed down, we will keep and pay respect to it.

Da Gui Ren & Xiao Gui Ren are of different paper, just that, folks tend to mix them together when we doing the calling.

The one with many Gui Ren & Holes on it are known as Men Qian Zhao Yin Gui Ren Zhi (門前招引貴人紙) and Not Fu (符). This type of Papers are burnt to fasten the process of attracting the various types of Gui Ren from the surrounding to arrive at one's side to provide the assistances. And so, sometime, the Gui Ren that being summon might not be Positive Beings...

  18. ic. thanks for ur explanation. btw izzit possible for u to give an introduction on the different incense papers(kimzua) different dialect grps use (which is available in singapore market). quite curious on their uses and how to use them.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sure, being doing the collecting of the different papers, once everything is finalize, will do a intro on each individual paper. so do keep a look out on the posting.

    ReplyDelete
  20. This piece of Paper Offering is known as Bai Jie aka 百解, a very useful piece of Paper Offering that you can get in most of the Josspaper-shop.

This function is quite similar to the Gui Ren Paper, just that, on the top, it shows Heavenly Master Zhang Dao Ling's Picture.

For thise Piece, once it is burn, most of the Debts & Sins will be eliminated and certain necessary blessings will be enhanced onto oneself.

Remember, each time only burn a piece and your personal data must be filled-in in-order to get the maximum after-effect.

    ReplyDelete
  21. oh this is often included in pai tai sui and "zhao cai jin bao" joss paper.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yup, but the most important is the piece that being shown here.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Shifu, just a few questions:

Is it necessary to use guirenzhi everytime? Also, what if we don't have a Chinese name? Here in the Philippines, I see Chinese people who don't always follow traditions like having Chinese name, only Western name. So when they go to Buddhist temples, when they make "Paiwei" (Spirit tablets), some only use their Western name.

Can I still use guiren paper?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Shifu, is this type of talisman expensive? What types of debts/sins CANNOT be eliminated?

    ReplyDelete
  25. This type is not expensive, you can get it at about S$0.50 to S$1.00 per piece, depend on the Quality.

What types of Debts and Sins cannot be elimibated, good Qns. Here are 3 Debts and Sins that Cannot be forgiven, so do keep in Mind:

    1) Unfilial
    2) Unloyal
    3) Unfaithful

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thank you Shifu! Just a question: how about non-Chinese or no chinese name? Can we still use Guiren paper? Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Of cos can, cos such Paper will transform into a form of Spiritual Will and Energy that will then be transmitted to one of the source that in-charge of one's physical and spiritual will.

    ReplyDelete
  28. shifu, can i check wif you if we pray the "Gui Ren Fu" at home, how many family member will pray how many pieces then everyong keep the red colour themselves ??

    ReplyDelete
  29. Everyone can have a piece, but while keeping the Red one for sticking up onto the wall, the whole family just need one will do. But everyday during the offering of incenses to the Deities and the Gui Ren, remember to mention all the names of the family members.

  30. Filling in all the addresses and dates, can we write in english format? and time of birth how to fill in? e.g if 5:30pm then how to fill in? As for 2009 is what XX年. The only part i know is to fill in my own name. By filling in just our name.. will it still work? Seems so hard to fill the info.

    ReplyDelete
  31. For the Year of 2009, in Chinese is 己丑年, for this, you can check from all normal Calendar that can be found in Asia.

For 5.30Pm, you needed to go thru the Chinese Hour Writing Format, such as 子丑寅卯....

If you cant write your address in Chinese, then no choice, you can only write it in English.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh so the chinese hour format is in 1 letter of a 12 set in every 2 hours right?
As for Year 1992 is 81年 right? As for address start from which line? The rest i more or less found out how to fill in already

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yup, Chinese Hour will come in 1 Lunar Hour equals to 2 Modern Hours. So from there, you can just calculate your Lunar Hour of Birth.

For 1992 is known as 民國八十一年. But in Tradition Form, we needed to write as 己丑, this can be seen on your Hanging Calendar at home.

What you mean by Address start from which line?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I mean where to start for the address? Cause i heading down to a temple now.. So wanna try to learn how to input..

    ReplyDelete
  35. I c.. put ur address after this sentence:

    中華南方海外省。南洋新加坡共和國。(Address)
    社恩信士。(自己名字)。

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks alot! learnt quite alot from you and the gui ren paper... Cause usually i see people only recite thier particulars in front of the gui ren paper and then flip 3 times on the front and back then burn only.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Welcome, this is my Task & Pleasure in sharing :P

    ReplyDelete
  38. I pray at the temple 2-3 times per week since there's no altar at home, I recite the name and particulars of my family for each time I do honouring. As for the Gui ren fu, I filled in the particulars for each prayer. Won't the Gods get kind of... "sian". "This guy keeps on telling me the same things each time he comes here to pray..." Lol

    ReplyDelete
  39. If dont do that everytime you honour them and then burn them off, you are just burning a piece of Blank Paper, so you are wasting your effort of going to a Temple to do your honouring.

    ReplyDelete
  40. If I have four names (family) should I split into having one paper per family member? or could I write everyone's particulars on one set? Thanks

Am I right? another qtn, what's meaning of Deities? Thanks in advance.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes, for the subsequences, you will do the same for the Papers.
Deities are the more offcial term to use to discuss chinese gods.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi Jave, 10 trips, 10 red GRZ, when to discard them ?
