Last Year, Jave Wu had do some simple introduction on the Ushering of Lord Fu Lu Shou to One’s Home on the 1st Day of Lunar 1 Month aka Lunar New Year Day (大年初一/新正日). This Year, Jave Wu will like to enhance more on the last year introduction, in-order for those who have miss the posting, to have another chance in knowing more on this Official & Accurate Practice in Taoist Culture.
So what shall Oneself prepare for the Ushering of Lord Fu Lu Shou?
For those who prefer Easy and Simple honouring, you can just prepare a set of 3 Good Long Incenses, 3 cups of warm Chinese Tea or Wine and a set of 5 Oranges for the Ushering.
For those prefer more Grand Honouring, you can add on the Five Taoist Offerings (道教五供, Huat Kueh (發糕一個), a Set of 5 Longevity Buns (壽桃包五粒), a packet of Longevity Noodle (長壽面一包), a Set of 12 Traditional Sweet Stuffs (十二齋碗), 3 Sets of Tian Gong Paper (天公金三疊) & 3 Sets of San Bao Jin (三寶金三疊).
After setting up the Offerings on a small Desk, which must face the Heaven in any Direction, Oneself shall Recite the Offering Incense Incantation (祝香神咒) and then call upon the Official Title of Lord Fu Lu Shou (福祿壽三星君).
The Official Title can be just Fu Lu Shou San Xing Jun (福祿壽三星君) or Zhong Tian Bei Ji Zi Wei Di Jun (中天北極紫微帝君), Jiu Tian Si Lu Wen Chang Di Jun (九天司祿文昌帝君) & Nan Tian Yan Shou Chang Sheng Di Jun (南天延壽長生帝君).
After calling upon the Official Title, Recite the Praise Mantra aka Bao Gao (寶誥) of Lord Fu Lu Shou:

Upon completion, Report Oneself’s Name and Residing Address and then make your Requesting.
Once the requesting is Done, make 3 Sincere Bows and then return back into the House.
After entering into the House, leave the Door open (with Gate locked for safety) until the whole family going to rest.
Once All these are being done, Lord Fu Lu Shou will be there to bestow the Blessing for the whole Family.
Do also look up into the Sky, cos Tonight, Fu Lu Shou Stars (Orion Stars) are usually the Brightest in the whole Year (check out on the Posting at http://javewutaoismplace.blogspot.sg/2008/02/pictures-of-fu-lu-shou-aka-three_8987.html).

Do remember, do not go to any Un-official Temples or Organisation to join in any such Ceremonies, especially those that required Big Sum of Money. They are just trying to use the Name of Deities to gain the Un-necessary Money.
In here, Jave Wu had also created a Poster dedicating to Lord Fu Lu Shou according to the Traditional Scroll that Taoists used in the Past. Oneself just needed to download the Poster and print it onto a Red or Pink A4 Size Paper. During the Honouring, place the Poster in front of the Urn and after Honouring, Retrieve the Poster and Paste it on the Wall where One’s Home Altar is. For those without Altar, just Paste it in the Living Room where everyone can see it everyday.

ReplyDeleteIs there any fu luo shou temple in singapore?
ReplyDeleteHi Jave Shifu,
ReplyDeleteI've got some questions....
1. For people who do not have home altars & no proper urn what can we use to hold the incense? A bowl? A tin can? A cup? Or can we just stick it into a Fa Gao or the stack of San Bao Jin?
2.When you say "call upon the Official Title of Lord Fu Lu Shou (福祿壽三星君)", what exactly do you mean? How do we say the exact words?
3. At which step do we burn off the Tian Gong paper & San Bao Jin?
Good afternoon Shifu Jave.
ReplyDeleteI just wondering how the arrangement of the timing & the table and the items,
since I usually pray Ti Kong on the new year eve.
Shall I do this honouring in the same time with honouring Ti Kong
and shall I prepare two separate tables ?
Please be advised Shifu.
Thanks alot for the posting and your kind attention.
For the Incenses, you can place them into the Fa Gao.
ReplyDeleteJust call the Official Titles - Fu Lu Shou San Xing Jun or the Individual Titles as mentioned above.
Burn the Paper after the whole Honouring completed.
You can do it together with the Tian Gong Altar. Do it on 0000 hrs.
ReplyDeleteHi Jave Shifu,
ReplyDeleteIs Tian Gong is also honoured on New Year's eve? If so what are the procedures like? The same steps as on the 8th day?
Yes, honouring Tian Gong is always the Same. Grand & Official.
ReplyDeleteHi Jave
ReplyDeleteYou talk about pasting the 福祿壽三星君 picture on the wall where the home altar is. So is it pasted on the wall above the god's statue or just anywhere on the altar table?
When do we need to remove the poster of 福祿壽三星君 and discard it properly?
Hello Jave shifu,
ReplyDeleteSorry I've got questions again
1. When honouring Fu Lu Shou do we need to put 3 stacks of old Shou Jin under each table leg of the temporary altar? Must it be 3 stacks each leg so total 12 stacks? Or is 1 or 2 stacks per leg ok too, so total 4 or 8 stacks? I hope you understand my question.
2.What do we do with the Huat Kway? After sticking in joss-sticks I don't think anyone would consume it right? So we just throw away after the offering?
Paste at the same level of the Statues. Never go beyond the height of your home Deities.
ReplyDeleteRemoved and burnt off after 24th Day of Lunar 12 Month.
For this, of cos you need to place the Paper under the Table Leg.
ReplyDeleteHuat Kueh can place on the Altar till it become mouldy and then burn if off on the 15th Day.
Good morning Si fu Jave,
ReplyDeleteI would like to wish you. in Cia Ju Ie, Sin Ti Cien Kang, Wan She Ru Ie.
May during this new year, you always be blessed by heaven with good health, happiness, good fortune and long life.
Thanks alot for your reply.
Best regards
Lu Kwang Hui (Winardi)

The Paper for the Table Leg is to separate the Ground with the Altar, another issue is to Block the Negative Energies that emitted out from the Ground to take effect on the Altar.

Thanks Jave for the information. Very useful for especially for non-Mandarin speaking Chinese like me. How I wish there are authentic Taoism classes here in KL (maybe setup by LSM?). It could help correct all the wrong practices, misconceptions, myths and fallacies about Taoism. Most of us just follow what our folks do without reasoning/questioning. When questions were posed, our folks asked us to keep quiet & just follow. I believe blind following will not lead to a strong faith. Hence, many youngsters nowadays converted out of Taosim (or even Buddhism). With such classes, we hope to impart the correct Taoism practices/knowledge to our next generation.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, back to Fu Lu Shou, it would be excellent and very beneficial if you could show all of us, pictures of at least the whole simple setup as a guide (including putting the paper under the table leg, mantra chanting process) since today is also the eve of Lunar New Year 2011. But forget it if u think it's a hassle.
Btw, I hv some questions here:
a) After honouring the Fu Lu Shou & wait for a few minutes, can we pack up all the things (like table, urn, cups etc)? From the above u mentioned the teas must be changed everyday. Do u mean we should keep the table open for 3 consecutive days?
b) What kind of paper to be used under the table leg? Tua Kim? Red paper? Can old newspaper be used?
c) Do we need candles to honour/pray the Fu Lu Shou?
Thanks.
