Paper Pavillion dedicating to 7 Maidens (乞巧美緣七姐亭)

In here, you all will be seeing the Paper Pavillion dedicating to the 7 Maidens aka Qi Xian Nv (七仙女).

In Singapore, it is quite rare to see such a Pavillion dedicating to Qi Xian Nv, this is the 1st time Singapore's Taoist Group making this to celebrate the 7th Day of Lunar 7 Month (農曆七月初七日).

PS: This Paper Pavillon was done by the Old Paper Dealer located at Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park.

  1. Hi Shifu,
what is the ritual of the Seven Maidens like?

  2. Usually is to honour the Seven Maidens, by offering sweet stuffs, comestics, etc.
After the honouring, the Ladies will eat the sweet stuffs and then use to comestics for Love and Beautiful Blessing.

  3. Oh. Any chantings or large scale rituals? And it's allowed to offer cosmetics to deities? What about offering cosmetics during Zhong Qiu? I read about that somewhere.

  4. Usually not much Rituals, usually this is mend for the Ladies to honour, not dedicated to all. In the past, this offering of comestics was already being practise. For Zhong Qiu, its almost the same.

  6. Shifu, what is the usage of the paper pavillion? be burnt after ceremony?
I want to know also the story of 7 Maiden.
Does Diao Chan (the beauty in San Guo, who sacrificed herself by marrying Lu Bu to initiate hatred between DongZhuo and Lu Bu) belongs to 7 Maiden or 4 Beauties (Si Da Mei Nv)?
Somehow I am confused with so many ancient chinese beauties hehehe

  7. Hi Janet, thanks for joining us and for the 7 Maidens, due to most of them are made up characters in myth, so in Taoism, there arent much records on them, so far being recorded in Taoism, there are the 7 Stars manifestattion.

  8. Yes, it will be burnt off after the ceremony.
Diao Chan belongs to the history 4 Beauty grp, she doesnt not appear in the 7 Maiden myth.

  11. Dear Shifu,

Thank you for your response to my query.

If the 7 Maidens is a myth, why do we still pray to them and have ceremony?

    I am confused.

Anyway, I love to hear the story of this 7 Maidens. I think only the oldies are aware of this story. Hello uncles and aunties out there, we will be glad you can tell us the story if you know.

I hope this story can carry down.

  12. Dear Janet,

This is the interesting and beautiful part of Folks Culture.

In the past, besides Honouring the 7 Maidens, which we all known that they are myth, it is also a time for the Girls to gather around to exchange ideas on the latest news on "fashions" or "gossips".

Not only that, this is also the time for unmarried guys to peek at unmarried girls in-order to request their parents to match-make.

  16. In Singapore, you can visit Wu Lei Temple (in between the 2 temples shown in the map below) at Bukit Batok Street 21 to honour 七仙女.
