The Five Categories (Group) of Taoism (道教五大派)

For Taoism, the different major & minor Sects (of about 70+ up to date) can be categorized under 5 Main Groups.

 

Each of these groups will look into different areas and performed different tasks to achieve in the Promoting of the Culture of Taoism.

 

So what are the 5 Main Groups in Taoism?

 

Here're the brief introductions:

 

1 - Ji Shan Group aka Luan Men Group 積善(鸞門)派(Charity & Assisting).

 

Under this group, disciples/members will have to achieve in accumulate credits and merits from doing Charities or assisting the needy.

 

In the past, disciples/members of this group would have to travel around the whole Country to perform charity.

In the Modern World now, besides doing Charities, Ji Shan Group also promote Taoism Culture by publishing Books on Taoism Teachings, etc.

2 – Jing Dian Group aka Jing Chan Group 經典(經懺)派 (The Scripture Studying Group).

 

In this group, disciples/members will do studies on Scriptures, finding the truth from Scriptures and do explanation on Scriptures, etc.

3 – Dan Ding Group 丹鼎派 (Alchemy Group)

 

In this group, disciples/members will perform self-cultivation by going thru training on Internal & External Alchemy studies.

 

Main Objective: achieve in getting good health and prolong of one's life.

 

Sect that involved in this group: Wu Dang

4 – Zhan Yan Group 占驗派 (Prediction or Skills involved in Surrounding/Nature Changes)

 

In this group, disciples/members will be trained on how to use skills to do predictions, observe the changes in the surroundings and nature.

 

Skills that are involved:

 

A – Geomancy aka Feng Shui

B – Prediction

C – Fortune Telling

D – Choosing of Auspicious Dates

5 – Fu Lu Group 符籙派 (Rituals Performing or Spiritual Blessing Group)

 

In this group, disciples/members will have to go thru training on how to perform Rituals/Ceremonies/Blessings or some, subduing of entities, etc.

 

In this group, Talisman Skills, Tracking of Negative Energy Skills, etc, will be trained.

 

Usually when people talked about Fu Lu Group, it refers to Zheng Yi Sect (& other minor sects under Zheng Yi Sect).
