Introduction on Lv Shan Sect Protectors (1): General Zhang Da & Liu Er (閭山護法 -張大與柳二將軍)

In Taoist Lv Shan Sect (閭山派), there are 4 Protectors that All the disciples that seek Mastership under Lv Shan Masters must honoured or pay respect to.

According to Taoist Lv Shan Sect Records, these 4 Protectors are the disciples of Heavenly Master Xu Xun, which is the Founder of Jing Ming Zhong Xiao Sect 淨明忠孝道 (the initial form of Lv Shan Sect).

In here, I will do an quick introduction on the First 2 Protectors, known as Zhang Da (張大) & Liu Er (柳二).

Zhang Da & Liu Er, 2 hometown-mates of Madam Chen Jing Gu (陳靖姑), before Madam Chen Jing Gu seek Mastership under Heavenly Master Xu Xun (許遜天師), Zhang Da & Liu Er had went to Lv Shan aka Mountain Lv to learn Spiritual Skills from Master Xu Xun.

During the 3 years of stay in Lv Shan, due to the slow-learning-pace of these 2 people, Master Xu Xun only trained them how to do pounding on rice and wheat (搗米).

On the end of the 3rd year, Zhang Da & Liu Er were summoned by Master Xu Xun.

Upon reaching Master Xu Xun room, Zhang Da & Liu Er were being dismissed by Master Xu Xun, before Zhang Da & Liu Er made their left, Master Xu Xun gave Zhang Da the Rice-pounding Stick (搗米杵) and Liu Er, the Rice-pounding Container (搗米臼).

Zhang Da & Liu Er were very shocked and disappointed by this act. As they exited Lv Shan, Zhang Da & Liu Er grumbled among each other for the way that Master Xu Xun treated them.

After reaching the bank of Bai Long River (白龍江), Zhang Da & Liu Er damped the 2 items into the River.

Just at the moment of the 2 items being thrown into the River, Bai Long River flooded and the River-bed cracked into half. The 2 people were shocked and scared, after calming themselves down, then they released that these 2 items were Spiritual Items that Master Xu Xun imparted them.

Immediately, Zhang Da & Liu Er jumped into the River to retrieve the 2 items back, just as they jumped into the River, the 2 items flew up onto the River Bank, in-order not to let these 2 items flee-off, Zhang Da & Liu Er climbed back to the River Bank and tried their very best to chase after the 2 items.

As they chased, the 2 items speed increased and within seconds, the 2 items and the 2 people had ran for miles, cut thru Mountains, Forest, Jungles, Caves, ect – this is actually a Planned way that Master Xu Xun trained them.

After miles & miles of chasing, finally the 2 items stopped and Zhang Da & Liu Er were able to grab hold of these 2 items. Just at the moment of grabbing the items, blood started to flow down from the whole body of the 2 people. Zhang Da & Liu Er were shocked but due to the joy of grabbing hold of the 2 items back, they forgotten the pain and they decided to bring back these 2 items to see Master Xu Xun at Lv Shan.

Back in Lv Shan, Master Xu Xun was very happy with the effort that Zhang Da & Liu Er put in to grab back the 2 items. And so, from then, Master Xu Xun decided to accept them back as disciples and bestowed them with an Official Spiritual Title known as Er Sha Wang aka The 2 Dukes of Er Sha (二沙王).

After noticing the cuts on the bodies, Master Xu Xun transformed all the cuts into little eyes, which allowed the 2 of them to see far, from then, Zhang Da & Liu Er were being enhanced with the Spiritual Power of seeing far, in-order to capture any form of Demons & Devils (千眼探惡魔).

  3. Protectors are Deities, just that their main Task is to carry on the with-holding of Uprightness, etc.

Never neglect the power of such Protectors, most of them got the authorities that other Deities dont have.

So in some other Religions, their followers will pay respect to such Protectors 1st before paying respect to the Key Deities.
