Introduction of Madam Fu De Tu Di Po (福德夫人土地婆)

 
Tu Di Po aka Fu De Fu Ren or Madam Fu De, from the title you can know that she is the Wife of Tu Di Gong aka The Earth Deity (土地公).

According to records & myth, Tu Di Po shall be a young and beautiful lady with an age of not more than 40 years old, but today in the modern Society, a lot of the statues that dedicated to Tu Di Po are in the old Madam form.

Why?

Due to the misleading passing down of Knowledge, Culture & hearsay.

And so, how Tu Di Po became the Wife of Tu Di Gong?

According to the records & myth, Fu De Zheng Shen (福德正神) only got married after decades of getting the Bestowed Title of Fu De Zheng Shen from Jade Emperor of Heaven.

One year, while Zhang Fu De was there to do the distributing of Fortune Blessing to the Mortals, a Deity which assist Jade Emperor of Heaven to do recording in the Mortal World found out that, every time before Zhang Fu De distributed the blessing out, he did not do any follow-up or checking on the person whom he going to distribute the blessing to, and so, a lot of the time, many Mortals made use of Zhang Fu De compassionate to request for un-limited blessing on Fortune & Wealth.

Soon, at the end of the year, while this Deity reported back to the Celestial Palace to do his reporting, he made a serious and harsh report on Zhang Fu De of distributing blessings un-necessary and illogically.

After Jade Emperor of Heaven got the report and making inspections on the report, Jade Emperor of Heaven (玉皇大天尊) realised that what the Reporting made were true. And so, in-order to stop such un-necessary blessings being distributed out so often, the Celestial Palace had to do something and so, at this crucial time, a Deity pop-out to make another report on an innocent & filial lady being accused to death in the Mortal World.

Immediately, Jade Emperor of Heaven got his Secretary to do a tedious check on the case and found out that this lady was really being wrongly-accused.
Within moment, this lady was being summoned to the Heaven, after doing interaction with her, Jade Emperor of Heaven noticed that, she could be the solution to Zhang Fu De issue.

Without consideration, this lady was being summoned nearer to the Altar and Jade Emperor of Heaven made his comment:

Due to you are being wrongly accused and being forced to death, Heaven will definitely bestow you with the Justice and so, now, the Heaven will like to match-make you with Fu De Zheng Shen as his Initial Wife. From today onwards, you are to assist Fu De Zheng Shen in looking into the request of blessings made by the Mortals. If the Mortals that make the requests are not Upright or Filial, he/she will not be distributed with any blessings, but for those who are Sincere, Faithful, Upright & Filial, then blessings can be distributed without any informing to the Celestial Palace.

After hearing the Judgement, the lady was shocked and delighted. Immediately, she kowtowed to Jade Emperor of Heaven to show her gratitude.

And Zhang Fu De who stood at the side was shocked and lost, cos, he knew that from today onwards, alot of people will not get his blessings, due to this is an Royal Edict, no one can changed and so, Zhang Fu De had to accept.

From then, those Mortals who are making used of Fu De Zheng Shen compassionate to gain in-returns are being rejected or some even got punishments. And this is why, in Hokkien Culture, the Hokkien will only pay respect to Tu Di Gong & not Tu Di Po, because of this reason.
