Pictures of Heavenly Lord Tai Yi (太乙尋聲救苦天尊)

Tai Yi Tian Zun (太乙天尊) aka Tai Yi Xun Sheng Jiu Tian Zun (太乙尋聲救苦天尊) or Tai Yi Zhen Ren (太乙真人).

In Taoism, he is the main key-person who is being appointed to take charge of the task of doing salvation for all the suffering souls, whether is to salvage them out of the suffering Realms or salvage them and bring them to the Eastern Palace for enjoying of eternal joyous.

During Taoist funeral wakes' rituals/ceremonies, Tai Yi Tian Zun will be invited and the Priests that conduct the Ritual/Ceremony must recite scriptures that are dedicated or associated with Tai Yi Tian Zun.

Different mantras are being recited too, in-order to assists the passed-on person to get the necessary blessing from Tai Yi Tian Zun.

In Big Salvation Ritual/Ceremony, the Taoist Priest will have to recite the Official Title of Tai Yi Tian Zun and also to visualize one self turning into Tai Yi Tian Zun while releasing the Positive Energy or Light Ray to do the salvation of the suffering souls.

Today, such Ritual/Ceremony can still be seen, but due to the engagement of Taoist Priest to conduct Funeral Ritual/Ceremony has dropped and so, not much people will be able to understand or see a Good "transformation" being done.

  3. This mantra can be recite by anyone, anywhere.

This mantra can be recite while you paying respect to your ancestors, etc.

By chanting this mantra, upon hearing the reciting, Tai Yi Tian Zun will appear and do the salvation for the sufferings.

    ReplyDelete
  4. This mantra can also be found in the Taoism Night Homework, where all the Priests needed to chant for the souls and passed-away.

In Buddhism, the Buddhist believe in the Western Paradise, there's a place called Ji Le Shi Jie, where all the good souls or souls being salvaged can stay in to enjoy the eternal joys and peacefulness.

Whereas in Taoism, we believe that in the Eastern Palace (The Eastern Paradise) got a place called Chang Le Jie, where all the souls being salvaged by Tai Yi Tian Zun can stayed in to enjoy the infinite joyous and peacefulness.

  6. Hi Jave,

Is't appropriate to place him together with hell god??

    ReplyDelete
  7. Dear Bro,

In some temples, they do place him with the Hell Deities, but due to his ranking, he must be place on-top of all Hell Deities, even Wu Yue (Dong Yue, etc) are to be placed under him.

PS: But dont treat him as Nether World Deity, cos he's not.

If you will to invite him into your temple or altar, then you will have to invite Di Zang to another altar. (Tai Yi and Di Zang do have the same performance task)

  9. i ever ask a priest .. when he was doin fang yang kou .. he recited tai yi tian zhun and also wear a headdress like di zhang wang and he told me di zhang wang is tai yi tian zhun in buddhist and tai yi tian zhun is di zhang in taoist .. is it true ??

    ReplyDelete
  10. Ha ha ha, I know who you mentioning.

Di Zang and Tai Yi got no connection, even-thou they have the same task to perform and carried the same object while they do the salvation for the sufferings and souls.

To be honest and frank, in Taoism, we do not have "Fang Yan Kou", cos in our Taoist Contexts, we have rules of "Dao Bu Fang Yan Kou, Fo Bu Can Li Dou" -> meaning, Taoism do not perform Yan Kou, as this ritual can only be seen in Buddhism and Buddhism cannot perform the ritual of paying respect to Nan Bei Dou (for longevity and getting rid of sins and disasters). But now, all being mix-up.

The hat head-dress that Taoist Priests worn during the Chao Du is different from the one monks worn.

For Taoism, on the head-dress, it showns the Five Lord of the Five direction (Wu Fang Wu Lao) -> which are the 5 very important Lords that helped in the salvaging of souls, etc.

Whereas in Buddhism, the head-dress showns the 5 Buddhas.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Add on:

Actually while a Priest put on the head-dress, there's a certain mantras to recite, not necessary to recite Tai Yi's mantra.

But Tai Yi is the main key-person in such rituals.

  12. This is the appearance of Tai Yi that appears in the Story of Na Zha.

PS: Tai Yi, in folks myth, is the master of Na Zha.

    ReplyDelete
  13. oh okok .. well i wont say its all mixed up .. but knowing that fo dao ben yi jia .. so wat we are doin might so cal be connected .. anyway thanks for ur explanation .. haha when i see u again .. i will ask more hahaha ..

    ReplyDelete
  14. Fo Bu Can Li Dou does this mean as fo " dont willing " to li duo ??

    ReplyDelete
  15. Not they dont willing, cos they do not have the set of ritual material to do it and it's not encourage and accepted for Buddhist to perform such ritual.

For all Religions and the rituals involved, we have a standard set being set by our Ancestors in the Ancient time, and this is the rule that were being set in the Ancient Era, no one can changed or break it.

For Taoism, we dont do Fang Yan Kou, but we perform ritual for souls such as "Po Yu" or "Ji Du/Pu Shi".

PS: Po Yu -> meaning salvage the suffering souls out, in-order to offer them food and send them to the Paradise.

Ji Du/Pu Shi -> the one performed at ur Tua is called this and not Yan Kou.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hahahaha, in some way, I do agree and double confirm that Fo Dao do exist closely together.

But in certain way like the customs of performing of rituals/ceremonies, making requests for the mortals, etc, must not be mix-up or jumble-up.

Like what I've posted earlier, all these are being set, rules & regulations must be followed. :)

  17. Hi Java, fyi, buddhist oso hav scripts of chanting bei dou...
In Buddhism, there is a section know 密教部 in 大藏经,it did have details abt 北斗 and sutra for 北斗 and oso ceremony to pray 北斗. In S'pore seldom pl know this.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hi Chin,

Yup, I know that, cos I have the script too. But according to the Buddhism Script of the Bei Dou, it doesnt seems to show the essence of the purpose of the ritual on paying respect to the Bei Dou.

Of cos, we are not here to fight for which is best and which is more accurate. :P

In Taoism, paying respect to the Bei Dou is a must practise that being pass-down by the our Ancestors and Fore-fathers, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi Java,
of cos we r not here to fight. I'm here just to share info and learn. Religion issue is endless...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hahahahaha, yup, we are here to exchange info mah, rite :P

Anyway, whether is Taoist Bei Dou or Buddhist Bei Dou, at the end is just a scripture. such scriptures can only be recite sincerely or by sincere person in-order to get it's power being release out.... ;)

  38. Hi Shifu,
so if we pay respect to Tai Yi Tian Zun, is it forbidden to pay respect to Di Zang Wang Pu Sa?
    Thanks. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Its not forbidden, just that we dont mix the 2 culture together.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh. Ok. But it isn't wrong to combine them together right? And is it ok to burn paper items for ancestors in the same bin as the bins for deities?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Cant say wrong, just that to avoid. Dont mix the burning.

    ReplyDelete
  42. oh. ok. I meant the same burning bin but used at different times. Is it ok to use the burning bins usually for deities when honouring anestors?
