Introduction of San Guan Da Di (三元三品三官大帝)

San Guan Da Di aka The Three Emperor Lords of the Three Realms (Heaven, Earth and Water), in Chinese, we address them as 三官大帝 or 三界公 (San Jie Gong).

On the 15th Day of Lunar 1st Month (農曆正月十五日/上元), this is the day that The Heaven Lord perform him inspection on the Mortal World (according to individual well-being, the Heaven Lord will distribute Prosperity accordingly 賜福), which later, the folks consider it as the Birthday for him.

On the 15th Day of Lunar 7th Month (農曆七月十五日/中元), this is the day that The Earth Lord perform his inspection on the Mortal World (according to individual well-being, the Earth Lord will record their credits/merits and delete the bad-doing accordingly 赦罪), which later, the folks consider it as the Birthday for him.

On the 15th Day of Lunar 10th Month (農曆十月十五日/下元), this is the day that The Water Lord perform his inspection on the Mortal World (according to individual well-being, the Water Lord will record their credits/merits and delete the mis-fortune accordingly 解厄), which later, the folks consider it as the Birthday for him.

  6. Tian Guan Da Di and Jade Emperor are of different Deities.

To be more accurate, Jade Emperor is the main key person to look after all Deities, including Tian Guan - meaning the "Boss".

Nowadays, people who made the hanging Tablets for home have somehow made some mistakes in the printing or production - now know as Tian Guan Chi Fu and not Yu Huang Da Tian Zun..

To be more accurate, the wordings in the Tablet shall be Yu Huang Da Tian Zun or Yu Huang Shang Di - to represent the Heaven.

  7. oh..it means that the tablet is for yok wong tye tai??the Jade Emperor?? that's why many people mix up seeing the Tian Guan Chi Fu

  8. Can say so.

As a normal Mortal or Living Being, the most important is to show our greatest gratitude to Heaven in bestowed us with a life for living and a breath for staying. This is why, as a Taoist, before paying respect to any other Deities, we need to pay respect to the Heaven 1st.

This is a form of cultivation to train one self in Loyalty, Filial Piety and Determination.

  18. sifu can i pray to one of the three or must i pray to three? i plan to invite tian guan to my altar.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Usually we will invite ALL of them. Cos we need to honour ALL the 3 of them in-order to have the Max Blessing for Prosperity-bestowing, Sins & Debts Eliminating and last, Bad Issue Preventing.

  20. Thank you very much for your reply. The reason why i worship tian guan alone because i was told since my birthday falls on the same as his, tian guan has the strongest affinity with me. Is that true? how do we determine which deity has the strongest affinity with us?

    ReplyDelete
  21. For such saying, it is not really true. And I thing I must clarify is that, 15th Day of Lunar 1 Month is not the Birthday of Tian Guan but, the Inspection Day of Tian Guan.

To know which Deity that Oneself is connected with, it will need to go thru certain testing and cultivation before we can know. So it need time.

  24. hi bro,

usually we see “天官赐福” is this 天官?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yup, the one (with 天官赐福) we Chinese usually used to honour Tian Gong outside the House is actually dedicated to Tian Guan.

A Proper Tablet that dedicated to Tian Gong shall have the following words written on it:

    玉皇大天尊。玄穹高上帝。 or 金闕玉皇大天尊。
