ReplyDeleteYup, a lot of ppl tend to mislead by the word Thunder, most of them thou that in Thunderial Dep, there only consist of all the Generals and Deities who are in-charge of Raining, etc, but actually is not.
To be more accurate, in Thunderial Dep, there consist of all Heavenly Generals, Deities in-charge of Protection, Heavenly Armies, etc etc...
Under Thunderial Dep or under Pu Hua Tian Zun, there's another Dep which is in-charge of the Five Spiritual Thunder (Wu Lei Fu) -> this Dep can charge a person to death -> if the person is a BIG BAD EVIL guy, Pu Hua Tian Zun can send a command to "get-rid" of this person with the Five Thunder (in chinese, we called Wu Lei Hong Ding).
oh okok .. .. so the thunderial dep have its authority to charge @ a person .. so its a world of its own huh ?? lei zhen zi is jus one of the general in there ??

ReplyDeleteThis will be used during certain Rituals/Ceremonies when the Priests or Spiritual Master needed to get the immediate attention of Wang Ling Guan, usually for Laymen Taoists or Non Taoists are not to recite this un-necessarily.

No, this is just a Myth Legend, not recorded in our Upright Taoism Contexts.

ReplyDeleteIn Taoism, Wang Ling Guan sometime will be addessed as Lei Gong, this is why, in some of the Temples, the People will dedicate a Bird-head Statue to him.

ReplyDeleteYes, in some Taoist Context, Wang Ling Guan is being address as Da Di, now in Northern China Taoism, some of the Taoist Temples still retain this Addressing Title.
ReplyDeleteBut for more Official Taoist Groups, we tend to avoid this Title in-order to prevent further misunderstanding.
Hua Guang Yuan Shuai being addressed as Hua Guang Da Di, is this the same Issue with this?
ReplyDeleteYup, can say so, another is that, Hua Guang was being addressed as Da Di due to the Cantonese Opera Culture.
ReplyDeleteIf you will to observe carefully and closely, usually in Taoist Rituals, we never addressed Hua Guang or Wang Ling Guan as Da Di, only Tian Jun or Yuan Shuai.

ReplyDeletefrom my studies recently, i found out that the 三十六天將 are often at the command of a deity that is incharge of getting rid of evil.. so far from what i know they are can be found under 真武大帝，保生大帝 and in some context 城隍爷.. so my feel is they are a department by themselves and deities can summon them to assist in their job..
ReplyDeleteThe Groups that you mentioned here belongs to Lv Shan Sub-schools or Folks Culture and not from the Main Stream Taoism.
ReplyDeleteThe Main Stream Taoism's 36 Heavenly Marshals only come under Zi Wei Da Di, Tian Huang Da Di and Heavenly Master Zhang Dao Ling.
Usually different Heavenly Masters will have a group following them, same goes to different Leaders of different Taoist Groups & Schools.
