Lin Shui Fu Ren aka Madam Lin Shui (臨水夫人), original name known as Chen Jing Gu (陳靖姑), born in Tang Dynasty, 15day of Lunar 1st Month (生于唐朝年間正月十五日).
Hometown of her's was at Hokkien Province, Foo Chew Area (祖籍為中國福建省福州市).
She's also one of the disciples of Xu Zhen Ren aka Gan Tian Da Di (相傳臨水夫人為許遜天師之高足).
In Taoism, Madam Lin Shui will always be accompany by her 2 sworn Sisters, which are known as Madam Lin & Madam Li (臨水夫人與林李二夫人合稱三奶夫人﹐為道教三奶派之始祖).

ReplyDeleteI love that white snake at her feet. I do not think this came from the statute maker?? So white is the meaning, or story behind it. Is this linked to the "white snake " legend? Or is the sake representing the evil that Tan Jing gu is battling , a quite different snake then?
Just to add your site here is still the most informative one around, but it would be great to have an indexing system, to make it easier to find a particular name/deity. EG Im looking for info General Oon /Wen its taking me ages and Im not certain to find it either.

Yes, the snake was added after the statue was made.
In Taoism, white snake represent Positive, Spiritual and Healing-associated. This match the task of Madam Lin Shui.
For General Wen, you just need to key in Wen Qiong in the search, you will be able to find him.
