Long Shan Men Tai Yi Salvation Day 2009 (己丑年龍山門太乙普度日)

Yesterday, 30 Aug 2009, 11th Day of Lunar 7 Month (農曆七月十一日), is considered as the Salvation Day of Heavenly Lord Tai Yi (太乙救苦天尊). As usual, Long Shan Men (龍山門) will need to honour Lord Tai Yi in-order to request for the Blessing for the Suffering Wanderings.

This Year, Million Thanks to Vabien for taking the Initiative to conduc the Salvation Day Ceremony on behalf of Long Shan Men.

And so, at Evening time, I arrived at his Place to assist him for the Honouring & Offering to the Wanderings.

Just before I arrived at his Place, he had already prepared the Spiritual Salvation Water aka Tai Yi Pu Du Gan Lu Shui (太乙普度甘露水) (Pic 04) and while I was there, we started to pack up for the Offering at the Open field under his Block.

Due to its getting late, so the Open Field was quiet, so without hesitation, we started to the Summoning of Earth Deity (此間土地神) 1st before the Offering started.

While Vabien was away to do the Summoning of Earth Deity, I was at the Burning Area to lay out the Offerings, just as I was laying out the Offerings, I could sense that someone pad on my shoulder. I knew that this was "abnormal", so definitely no turning of the Head. Without paying attention to that, I just carried on with the spreading of the Offerings.

After Vabien returned from the Summoning of Earth Deity, I asked him to go to the 2 sides of the Roads to summon in the Wanderings, just as he finished the summoning, a gust of Strange Wind appeared at the Burning Urn, so immediately, the Burning had to start.

Once the Fire was started, the Salvation Water must be Sprinkle around the whole Area. The Main Purpose of this Salvation Water was to allow the Wanderings to lessen their Burdens & Sins and then, proceed with the Leaving of this Suffering Mortal Realm.

Usually for Long Shan Men, once the Water was being Sprinkle out, no One was allowed to look at the Area where the Burning was carried out and so, immediately, Vabien & I had to leave the Place to proceed with the Sending Off of Earth Deity (Pic 08).

After the Sending Off & Thanking the Earth Deity, the Salvation Day was considered Completed.

Kreta Ayer Merchant Association 7th Month Celebration (牛車水商聯中元會)

After a week's resting at home, today, I decided to bring my Mum to Chinatown to have our dinner and also, using the opportunity to drop by the 7th Month Celebration Tentage set-up beside Tooth-relic Temple.

Knowing that every year, Kreta Ayer Merchant Association will conduct Grand Celebration for 7th Month, but out of my expectation, this year, the Association is holding a Bigger Celebration, this is a Good Sign.

Upon finishing our Dinner, my Mum and I walked towards the Tentage. Just as we were crossing the Road from Greatwall Coffee-shop, we saw the Salvation Lantern being Set-up at one of the Corner at Blk 335A, so I decided to stop by to take some Pictures (Pic 01 - 03).

Upon the Arrival at the Tentage and from the Set-up, we noticed that Cantonese Taoist Priest Group, Nan Wu Rong Xin (南無榮新) was being engaged for the Salvation Ritual, which I always thought that was Cantonese Taoist Priest Group Nan Wu Xiang (南無祥).

Due to the Celebration has not yet started, so most of the Paper Figurines were not yet being Dotted (Pic 08 -09) and the Spiritual Notice was not yet Enhanced (Pic 19 - 24).

After a round of taking of Pictures, my Mum decided to make a move and so, we headed home.

PS: Something sad to know is that, some of the Information given on the Explanation Display Board are Not Accurate.

Daily Cultivation for New Taoists (平常日道門中人之修)

Rating:★★★
Category:Other

Recently, quite a number of New Taoists or Interested Parties approached me for the knowledge on Basic Cultivation for Taoism. And of cos, due to my Tasks, I shared with them on the Daily stuffs that Oneself can do at Home, acting as a form of Basic Cultivation for New Taoists.

As everyone knows that, after being Endorsed as an Official Taoist, Daily Chanting must be done, no matter how rush or busy Oneself can be. Some Non-Taoists might not be able to understand or accept such behaviours, but to a Taoist, it is important, cos by doing so, Oneself is able to do Self-patience Training and also, to understand the In-depth meaning of a saying in Qing Jing Jing (清靜經) - Dong Zhe Jing Zhi Ji (動者靜之基), translated as Movements/Actions are the Foundation or Cause of Serenity.

In here, I will do a quite intro on my Ownself's Daily Cultivation at home.

First thing after waking up, washing up and keeping Oneself refreshing is a Must. By doing so, Oneself will keep in the Mind that, Today is a Fresh Day, no matter what happen, Oneself must try to keep calm & peace in Mind, in-order to Balance the Un-necessary Un-balancing Issues.

After then, preparing of Water for Honouring to the Deities. Alot of Taoists or Chinese tend to skip this Procedure, cos to them, as long as they Offered Tea or Water to the Deities on the 1st Day or 15th Day of the Lunar Month will be enough, actually is Not. By doing Daily Preparation of the Water, this is One way to show your Sincerity & also to Train One's Patience. For some Lazy People, by doing Preparation of the Water for 1 Month, they had found it difficult to continue, once such Thought appeared, then it will be time for Oneself to do Serious Reflection on why.

Follow by the Offering of Water will be Offering Incenses. Due to New Taoists are not Fully Trained on the Ways of Kneeling or Making Kowtow, then for the Kneeling or Kowtow can be omitted, if not, once the Method of Kneeling or Kowtow is not being properly done, Kneel-caps or Body-muscles will be affected. In-order to lessen the Risks, just normal Offering of Water & Incenses will do and then, follow by the Chanting.

Chanting is always a Nightmare to alot of People, especially Non-Taoists. But if Chanting, such a "Simple Task" and yet Oneself find it Scary, then in this Life, what is Happiness or Joyous? Chanting is just being done by using One's Mouth, Mind & Heart, is that so difficult that Oneself will be exhausted to death after doing? I doubt so. Once Oneself is willingly to Learn & Promote the Upright Culture, I think Chanting will be the Most Enjoyable Task to perform everyday.

For those who cant perform Chanting in the Morning due to Work or Family Committment, do not worry, cos on the Way to Work or after bringing Children to School, etc, use just 5-10 minutes to do Simple Chanting, such as just Qing Jing Jing or a few Bao Gao aka Praise Mantras (寶誥), I think it will be enough to keep Oneself Calm & Peace for the next 4-6 Hours (refering to those who are Hot-tempered).

Now, for those whose Homes do not have Maids, then this will be Really a form of "Movement Cultivation" for you all. Due to we have Grandmother, Mother or Wife at home, alot of the People tend to leave the House-chores to them, which this is indeed a very Bad Action.

For those who tend to wake up early or is a MUST to wake up early for the Chanting, after Chanting, use about 15-20 minutes to do some Simple House-chores such as helping the Ladies to do some Cleaning of Utensils, Mopping the Floor, Cleaning the Tables or doing some minor Washing. Make Oneself sweat a bit (even without Exercising). During the Washing, etc, Oneself try to keep the Mind Clear & Calm. Even though Washing or Cleaning is NOT easy, but when Oneself is putting Efforts into such Washing, Oneself can Trained Oneself to remain Calm & Peace. How to do it, Once you start your Washing or Cleaning, you will be able to find out yourself of how to maintain the Balancing.

After the Washing, the Morning Cultivation will be considered Completed.

For Noon Cultivation, it will be more Simple. During Lunch Time, 5 minutes before your Meal, do some Simple Chanting again. For those who have only 30 minutes of Lunch-time, then you may wish to have your Meal 1st and then do the Chanting after the Meal, this can be done too.

For those who got extra Timing, you may wish to visit a Nearby Temple to pay your respect to the Deities or do your Chanting in the Temple, if you can do so, this will be Great.

At Night, once after reaching home, perform your Wash-up, then if Oneself has already Calm-down from the Traveling-back, then it will be time to do the Last Chanting for the Day. Due to New Taoists who are not yet being trained to do the Night Salvation Ritual, so it will be best of not getting into that. Just Simple Chanting on Qing Jing Jing or Tai Yi Tian Zun Bao Gao (太乙天尊寶誥) will be Great.

For some of the Taoists, they tend to do some Self-reflections at Night on the Things that they have Done or Encountered during the Day, it will be Great too.

Once the Night Chanting or Reflection is being Done, then the Whole Day's Cultivation is considered Smoothly or Successfully Completed. Look forward to another Good Day for tomorrow.

Last of All, just to remind everyone here, doing Self Cultivation is not to become a Deity or to Gain more In-return from the Heaven or Deities. Self Cultivation is to make Oneself a better person and also, to benefit the People that are around us, such as allowing the People from not suffering from being affected by our Bad-temper or etc. Another thing is that, beyond ALL Self Cultivation, Respect is very Important.

Before doing anything, Oneself must always remind Oneself that Respecting the Others is always very Important.

If Oneself got a Master or Teacher, Respect them at ALL time.

If Oneself got a Leader of the School or Sect, Respect them at ALL places.

Do not neglect this.

Once Oneself does not show the Respect, then it will really defeat the Purpose of being a Taoist.

At the End, wishes ALL of you Successful in your Self Cultivation.

Night Exploring Tour at CCK Cemetary (蔡厝港華人墓地之旅)

Rating:★★★
Category:Other

Today, the 1st day of the Chinese 7th Month Celebration (20 Aug 2009), in Folks Term known as Ghostly Month, upon the invitation by Mr Raymond Goh of API (Asia Paranormal Investigators), I joined them for a Midnight Tour at CCK Cemetary - acting as the Taoist "Ghost-detector".

For this Trip, Reporters from Lian He Wan Bao (聯合晚報) were there to do photo-taking & interviews.

At about 11.00Pm, we reached CCK Cemetary. Upon arriving, we saw a Group of Temple Members waiting at the Main Entrance, after checking with them, we found out that they were from Tian Ci Temple (天慈宮), located at Punggol.

After meeting up with the Reporters & some other members from API (1 of them with Yin-yang Eyes 陰陽眼), we started our Tour by waiting into the Dark Cemetary. For those who never went to Cemetary at night, you might felt errie, but for us, due to we were quite exposed to such things, so when we walked into the Cemetary, the 1st impression that appeared was Peaceful.

Due to we have to go to several points to do capturing of Photos, so we had to get onto the big Van of Mr Charles (Founder of API).

Upon boarding, we went to the very 1st Point, where the Tombs from Old Tiong Bahru were being shifted too. At that spot, a concrete Shrine was built to honour Tu Di Gong aka Deity of Earth (土地公). Just as we were talking and looking at the surrounding, one of the API members captured a Mystery but Interesting Picture showing a Red-colored clothing Being form floating out from the Shrine. Immediate Impression that I got was, that was not a Wandering, but the Guarding Spiritual Being that stayed inside the Shrine. After looking at the Picture, the Reporters were shocked.

After then, we proceed deeper into the Cemetary, along the ways, we saw rows of Candles & Incenses being placed along the Drive-ways. Seeing people walking around one T-junction, Charles decided that we had a quick stop at the T-junction to join in the Sintua Temple for the Leading of Souls. As usual, Cameras started to get into their working-process and we just walking around to trace any form of Abnormal Issues happening, to our disappointment, nothing "appear".

Again, we started our journey into the higher part of the Cemetary, upon reaching, we saw a Big Group of Aunties & Uncles doing their Honouring. Just as the Cameras performing their task, a Nice Picture was being taken again. Just as the Picture was taken, the Group was packing up and about to leave the Place and so, we had to jump into our Van.

Soon, we came back to the Entrance again. After a quick debrief by Mr Charles, we head back home. Looking at the Watch, it was already 1.30Am.

Interesting Trip but nothing Spooky happened.

Paying Respect to Heavenly Lord Pu Hua (萬壽山觀音堂普化天尊壽誕)

Today (14 Aug 2009), the Manifestation Anniversary of Heavenly Lord Pu Hua, Vabien & I went to Wan Shou Shan Guan Yin Temple to pay respect to Heavenly Lord Pu Hua.

Upon reaching the Temple (about 11.00Am), noticed that the Temple was quiet & only the Temple Keepers were around, so we take our time to do the preparation & laying out of the Offerings.

At about 11.30Am, the Honouring started.

1st by Paying Respect to Jade Emperor of Heaven (玉皇大天尊) and then do a quick Report on the Event and also, request for Blessing for the Sufferings in South Taiwan. As you all can see in the Picture (No. bss_gyt_14082009_05), Vabien was doing the Recitation of Bao Gaos in-order to request for Blessing & Salvation for the Sufferings in South Taiwan.

After doing the Reporting, we proceed into the Temple to pay respect to the Main Deity, such as Jade Emperor of Heaven (No. bss_gyt_14082009_06), Cundi (準提佛母 (No. bss_gyt_14082009_05)), Lord Hua Guang (華光大帝 (No. bss_gyt_14082009_07)), Lord Wen & Wu (文武聖帝 (No. bss_gyt_14082009_08)), Madam Zhu Sheng (註生娘娘 (No. bss_gyt_14082009_09)), Lord of Sun (太陽星君 (No. bss_gyt_14082009_10)), Lord of Moon (太陰星君 (No. bss_gyt_14082009_11)), Empress Long Mu (龍母娘娘 (No. bss_gyt_14082009_14)), Ma Zu (媽祖 (No. bss_gyt_14082009_13)) & last, Pu Hua Tian Zun (普化天尊 (No. bss_gyt_14082009_17)).

After Honouring Pu Hua Tian Zun, then we proceed outside the Temple to honour Fu De Zheng Shen (福德正神 (No. bss_gyt_14082009_15)) & Tiger Deity (虎神 (No. bss_gyt_14082009_16)).

Last, returning back to the Rear Hall to pay our respect to the few Founders of the Temples in Telok Blangah Height ((No. bss_gyt_14082009_19 - 20)).

Upon the completion of 3 round of Offering Incenses, we proceed to the Sending Off of the Paper Offerings. During the Sending Off of Paper Offerings, again, Vabien encountered some interesting Miracle, for this, maybe I will leave it to him to do a write up in his Multiply Web soon.

During the Sending Off of the Papers, suddenly the Sky started to change. As you all can see in the Pictures ((No. bss_gyt_14082009_24 - 25)), the Cloud started to gather on top of the Temple, turning the Sky above the Temple into Yin & Yang.

During the intervals of the 3 rounds of Offering Incenses, I went around the Temple to take some Pictures. Shockly found that, the Seven Dipper Lamps were being taken good care, really happy to see that the Seven Dipper Lamps shined so Brightly in the Temple ((No. bss_gyt_14082009_21)).

Shi E was attracted by the Colorful & Shiny outer layer of the Pearl and so, without hesitation, he kept the Pearl and continue his Journey to the Capital.

Upon reaching the Capital, Shi E was being instructed to stay at the Students' Hostel somewhere near to the Capital Examination Hall. Just as he was about to unpack his package in his Room, the Milky Golden Pearl started to Shine. Shi E was amazed by what he saw and so, he stopped his unpacking and sat down to admired the Pearl.

Just as he was staring hard at the Pearl, he saw a tiny face appearing inside the Pearl, Shi E was shocked and immediately, throw the Pearl onto the Floor. But just at the moment of the Pearl touched the ground, it rebounce back onto the study table. Shi E was totally shocked by what he saw. Immediately after the Pearl landed on the table, Shi E heard a calling from the Pearl, saying that it is actually a Snake Spirit that hide inside the Pearl to do cultivation.

After listening to the explanation, Shi E started to calm down and accept the fact of the "Abnormal" Pearl. In order not to let anyone found out that he got such an Extraordinary Pearl, Shi E kept the Pearl in a Box and lock it in the Drawer under the study table. Whenever Shi E wanted to talk to the Pearl, then he would retrieve it out in late night to communicate with the Snake Spirit.

3 Days before the Imperial Examination, Shi E was being summoned to the Imperial School for a Briefing. Just as he left his Room, Shi E took out the Pearl and had a look, telling the Snake Spirit that he would be soon taking the Examination, hope that the Snake Spirit could bless him, just before Shi E got the chance to keep the Pearl into the Box, his Classmate came to look for him and so, Shi E had to throw the Pearl into the Drawer without keeping it in the Box. Soon, the 2 of them left the Hostel to meet up with the Examination Invigilators.

Just at the Time when Shi E stepped out of the Hostel, a Monk came to the Street where the Hostel was located to beg for alms. Upon reaching the Main Entrance of the Hostel, the Monk stopped and started to observe on the whole Energy of the Hostel. Without consideration, the Monk dashed into the Hostel and started to go straight to Shi E's room despite the others stopping him.

The Hostel's Owner was shocked and so, he quickly followed the Monk into Shi E's Room to take a look. By the time the Owner reached the Room, the Monk had grabbed onto the Pearl and was about to smash it onto the Floor. The Owner immediately stopped the Monk from doing so, cos the Owner worried that Shi E might sued them to Court.

Soon the Monk explained that in the Pearl, it hide a Demon Snake that would eat all the Students in the Hostel. Upon hearing, the Owner couldnt believed cos Shi E had been staying in the Hostel for more than months and nothing had happened.

Even though that Owner explained to the Monk that nothing had happened but the Monk insist of destroying the Pearl.

Just as the Pearl was being thrown onto the Floor, a Bright Ray emitted out from the Pearl and a White Snake appeared in the Bright Ray. The Owner & other Students were shocked, without hesitation, the Monk chased after the Snake Spirit to the Main Street. After a few rounds of battling, the Monk was not able to capture the Snake Spirit and so, the Monk sneaked away leaving the Snake Spirit hanging on a Tree outside the Cheng Huang Temple (城隍廟).

Knowing that a Snake Spirit had appeared in the Main Street, the Magistrate Officer had to engage People to get rid of the Snake as fast as it could before the Emperor knew about it. Just as the Magistrate Officer was trying his best to "lead" the Snake down from the Tree, Shi E returned from the meeting at the Imperial School. After finding out the whole incident, Shi E volunteered himself to negotiate with the Snake Spirit of returning to it's original form.

Shi E came forward to the Tree and upon seeing Shi E, the Snake Spirit's tears roll down from the Eyes, the Commoners standing around to observe were all shocked and actually moved by the scene. Seeing that the Snake Spirit had encountered fear, Shi E went forward to comfort the Snake and ask the Snake to return to it's original form, but the Snake shaked its head and then a voice was being emitted into the Air saying that the Pearl was destroyed and now, the Snake couldnt get back to its original form.

Upon hearing that, Shi E was sad & angry with the Ignorant Monk for being Cruel & Heartless despite doing Buddhist Cultivation. Without any other ways, Shi E had to send the Snake to the Cheng Huang Temple and requested the Cheng Huang to take charge of looking after the Snake.

After Shi E sent the Snake to the Temple, the Magistrate Officer sent a few men to capture Shi E and sentenced him to death due to the bringing Demon into the Capital City. Shi E was shocked and beg for appeal but the Magistrate Officer did not take in his appealing and on the next morning, Shi E was beheaded outside the City Gate.

At the moment of Shi E's execution, a loud explosion was heard from the Cheng Huang Temple direction, after the explosion, a White Dragon ascended into the Air and immediately, Thunder Storm started and Rain poured heavily.

Knowing that Shi E was being wrongly accused, one of the Officers reported the case to the Song Emperor. Upon receiving the Report, Song Emperor was anger by the Ignorant Officer for not being wise & fair. With an Order, the Magistrate Officer was being executed and the Monk was being arrested with death sentence punishment.

Even though the Song Emperor had returned Shi E's innocent, but the Bad-weather did not stopped. On that night, the Snake Spirit had entered into the dream of the Emperor telling that Shi E was actually a Destinated Deity that could cease Bad Weather & Sea disasters. Immediately after woke-up, the Song Emperor bestowed Shi E with the Official Title of Hu Guo Zhen Hai Hou (护国镇海侯) and the White Snake Spirit as Zhen Miao Da Jiang Jun (鎮廟大將軍). Whenever a Temple was built near to any Water, these 2 Deities must be Invited and an Altar must be dedicated to them and All Snake Spirits were have to report to Shi E.

And just as co-incidence, after the Titles were being bestowed to them, the Stormy Weather stopped.

During Ming Dynasty, due to Battles & Internal Riots, a few Generals were being killed. Due to their Merits & Credits in protecting the Commoners, after the Battles & Riots ceased, the Ming Dynasty Emperor also bestowed them with the Title of Hu Guo Zhen Hai Hou. From then, Temples dedicated to Hu Guo Zhen Hai Hou started to get popular.

Now in China Shang Hai City, you all can still find a few Temples dedicated to Shi E and the Ming Generals.
